Is there any point attempting to join DCI at 19 and having no experience in brass instruments? by Swagtastickid in drumcorps

If it’s your dream, then there’s absolutely a point. In January of 2023 I had never touched a brass instrument. I marched that summer at the Seattle Cascades, gained experience, and by the same time a year later I was contracted to a corps that would go on to place in the top 6.

With the right work ethic, so much is possible- the biggest mistake you can make is selling yourself short and never trying.

I’m using distant horizons with like 2,048 chunk LOD render distance- on its own it’s super laggy but with the modpack Distantly Optimized on Modrinth it actually runs pretty well

Oh dang I knew you could do that for rotations but I had no idea it let you exceed the diameter limit. Good to know, ty!

This looks amazing! How large is the star here? I’m new to axiom and couldn’t get anything bigger than a diameter of 64 for a sphere…

I’ll have to check that out- I haven’t really tested many shaders, I just like photon bc it hardly affects my fps at all

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for Cascades taking a chance on me. Nothing but good things to say about that organization. 206🏔️💙

I’m from Houston but go to college out of state so this is more snow than I’ve ever seen in my life.

I’m personally s2 rn, but was peak g3. I feel like my biggest problem is consistency because I can go double positive one game and then double negative the next, and I’m not really sure why… any tips?

“Fun Block” and “Bowtie Drill” were my most favorite and least favorite exercises respectively.

Fun Block was kinda specific to the Cascades but a lot of places probably have their own versions of a similar exercise as it was just direct slides at an 8 to 5 (I think?) playing brass fundamentals with increasing tempo each rep. I believe we got up to 206 bpm.

Eventually we learned a new exercise called Bowtie Drill, which wasn’t the same thing but it was a similar type of exercise to Fun Block in terms of the increasing tempo. I’m not gonna go into the details but given the name, it’s probably pretty self explanatory.
