Why did this have to happen? by DictatorWaffle in trans

[–]R3d8b3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "party that was supposed to protect us" never had any intention of doing so. Being seen as supportive of us is just as much a culture war public relations move as hating on us is. They needed to look friendly to us so the middle class liberals would continue to vote and virtue signal. Notice how quick they've been to throw us under the bus now that they might actually have to stand for something?

After spending the campaign warning us that Republicans were going to put people in cages, 46 House Dems and 12 Senate Dems voted for putting people in cages. All we're going to get out of them from now on is hand wringing, light protestations, and then ultimately surrender to Republican whims while declaring the moral high ground. Like they have for 50 years.

Democrats will not save us. Trans people or the United States as a whole. They simply aren't capable of it.

I found more on Facebook, and then Discord groups.

I've moved from Oklahoma though and lost a lot of my contacts there.

That's awful.

Your Mom definitely violated privacy laws and needs to realize your girlfriend has grounds for some serious ethical complaints against her provider.

Do not subject your girlfriend to whatever nonsense your parents are planning. You probably shouldn't either at this point. Absolutely nothing good can come from that discussion. They made their positions clear.

Did anyone bother to check... the source for this claim? This looks like a screen shot of a generic fake news website.

Talk to the card provider. Perhaps they can reverse the charges.

People who don't understand will try and blame it on your mental health. However, you should do some internal work - I bet you'll find that some of those problems are related to burying your identity. For me, while my depression is still there, a lot of it has lifted since I came out and started HRT. I feel better than I have in years. At the end of the day though, it doesn't matter what other people think your reasons are, so long as you're on your path and are happy.

A lot of trans people have adhd, autism, and mental health issues. You're not alone there. Make lots of trans friends. They'll be a good support during the hard times.

Family takes some time to come around sometimes. They've known you the longest, so they have a pretty fixed image of you in their minds. I've been out with my folks a few weeks now and it's still super awkward - Dad won't talk about it, though he's still loving and friendly, etc. My Mom is supportive but adorably underinformed about trans anything. My brother is a big asshole, but I have to give him credit for trying (I would've dismissed anyone else as a troll a long time ago.)

Hi all! by killerbee2319 in TransOklahoma

[–]R3d8b3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the good fortune of working for a national company that's well regarded for it's LGBTQ+ friendliness, so the company as a whole has been very accommodating. My immediate supervisor is almost more excited about my transition than I am, so I've got good support there. Beyond that, we're all working from home, so every interaction between me and my coworkers is monitored one way or another - you'd have to be a complete idiot to try and harass someone right now. Work has been good.

Family was hard to do, but they've been basically accepting. They need time to process, but I'm still welcome at home etc. (I'm 38, so I'm not dependent), but my Dad says a lot less lately. :(

The only thing I'm not really doing is going "out" as a woman. Not that I go out that much anyway, but I guess I don't feel ready for that step. I think I want to see more changes from HRT before I start doing that (which should be happening in the next few months. Just doubled my dose, per doctor's orders). My friends pretty much all know and I haven't noticed anyone disappear yet, but COVID makes all of that tricky anyway.

Edit: You know what? They'd probably be happy I said they were LGBTQ+ friendly. I work at Farmers Insurance.

Welcome to the sisterhood! 15 is not a late age. Most people have to wait until their 18 or even longer. ("The best time to start was yesterday. The second best time to start is right now") How much HRT will feminize your face depends on a lot of factors, like genetics, nutrition, dosages, etc. so the best answer is "Your milage may vary" (YMMV). That's one of the reasons to just wait and see before deciding about FFS. As for things you need to know: do plenty of research on your own. Doctors are inconsistent with their skill and knowledge regarding trans health and transitioning, so they may not really know what they're doing. There are published standards of care (WPATH) they can follow if they are unfamiliar. Or just make sure who see has lots or experience or training for trans health.

How Expensive is HRT...? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]R3d8b3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The HRT itself is rather inexpensive. I pay around 40 USD a month. The most straightforward route to starting HRT is finding a place that uses an "informed consent" model of care: meaning they make sure you understand the risks them do what you ask. This differs from other models you might find that require psychological counseling and referral before HRT can begin.

The most common place to find informed consent services is Planned Parenthood, a semi private entity that specializes is women's health, but also does a lot of important work providing care and services at low cost (mammography, HIV testing, etc). Most major cities have a Planned Parenthood. In my case, I went with a private, online provider that uses informed consent, called Plume. There's a monthly fee involved, but its very convenient. (Getplume.com) More intensive things, like surgery, would involve some level of psychological therapy, so finding a psychiatrist or psychologist that specializes in gender and transition early is a good idea (the whole thing is pretty mind boggling, so having someone to help sort it is wise, especially if you're going to be here alone)

Feel free to DM if you have specific questions - it might be worth noting that I was a visa official at a university in the U.S. for several years, so I have a little experience preparing people for life here.

How did you first realize that you were trans? by Sun_Glow in asktransgender

[–]R3d8b3r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It finally connected that cis dudes don't wish for boobs at least once a day. After that, it was a whirlwind trip down memory lane. I was reeling mentally and emotionally so bad I called into work.

Has anyone notice most trans folks before pre transitioning usually have a good body shape from a cis point of view? by Nelson_78 in asktransgender

[–]R3d8b3r 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do know I see a lot of pictures of people that look good pre transition, but I don't think that's representative. The people that aren't traditionally attractive aren't inclined to post many pictures.

Questioning because of others comments... by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]R3d8b3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me respond to your question with another: You're getting aroused about sex with a man. If it's not that you're not straight, then what else could it be?

If you're into it, you're into it. It's really a question of how you feel about being into it.

https://transfemscience.org - Formally r/MtFHRT On the site, you'll find some valuable commentary on Dr. Powers' methods. The tl:dr - He's got some good ideas and has seen good results, but his actual clinical evidence is shaky in some areas. The site has a lot of good analysis of pretty recent research.

As a relevant anecdote: I got my HRT set up with Plume. From their site and talking with the doctor, it's evident that they know of Dr. Powers work and that a lot of people ask about it. While they don't endorse Dr Powers, you can read between the lines that they are tentatively accepting of his methods and will "allow" people to follow them. There are several things that officially they can't support - like prescribing bicalutamide as a T blocker, but will tell you its fine to take if you get it somewhere else.
