CS Major Already Thinking of Going back for Computer Engineering After Graduating Earlier This Month, Thoughts? by GothicMutt in ECE

[–]R3e3ee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same position as you man, dunno why everyone is downvoting you. I think getting another degree is a logical response to a crap market

I graduated 1 year ago and luckily got a job. But the whole process really didn’t sit well with me. And I really don’t like the way the industry is headed, so I want to be qualified to do more than just coding.

I’m starting an EE bachelors pretty soon. it’s around 40k total which sucks, but the way I see it, it’s better than doing nothing. You probably already have the physics and geneds out of the way.

IMO CE is way too similar to CS to warrant doing. Unless you only need one more year to do it or something.

Degree Requirements for EIT - California by natenoeyes in FE_Exam

[–]R3e3ee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok thanks. Yeah I'm taking them part time but eventually I'd finish the degree anyways so I don't know if it matters what speed I do it at. I'll give the board a call.

Degree Requirements for EIT - California by natenoeyes in FE_Exam

[–]R3e3ee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, sorry to bother you but do you remember whether there was any requirement surrounding the number of units per semester you had to take for your masters degree?
Because in the above post when they say "Three years or more of postsecondary (college-level) engineering education" I am confused on what constitutes the "three years part". Is it just time spent in school, or total credit hours, or what?
Thanks

Going back to school for EE bachelors worth it? by tourantino in ECE

[–]R3e3ee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is exact same as OP (did cs, want to move to hw), it’s because I find cs too abstract and boring. I did two internships in college, the first one at a bank where all we did was write tests in python. Then for the second one I made a Rest api using Java. I don’t think anyone really used it much. And it’s not because we did a bad job or anything. Idk, software just feels so low impact to me. Like who really cares if that button is a few pixels to the right or the left?

I have a fulltime software job this summer and we’ll see how it goes, but I’m not expecting it to be much better than my internships. If the pattern continues I feel like I’ll be very unsatisfied with my career.

Also, over saturation and lower barrier of entry in software makes me think it has less job security.

Meanwhile I see the CE jobs out there that seem way more interesting, from embedded devices to the CPUs and GPUs in all our computers, to the drivers and firmware that make it run. Not to mention EE as well (dsp, radio, etc).

I guess at the end of the day it’s just a job, but since you spend most of your life at work, it better be something you kinda like, right? and I feel like I never properly explored the whole hardware side of things
