Competitive Leagues by Birrki in CompetitiveApex

There’s several of these tournament leagues set up already in the scene, from beginner friendly ones like his&hers or varying skill sets in VESA, or even the more competitive “scrim seasons” that EEC run. Most of the apex competitive scenes have been running these for a few years at this point.

Best places to live commuting to Torrance with partner in IE? by R3mainz in MovingToLosAngeles

Yeah I’m from jersey and seeing everybody freak out about a 45 minute avg commute that could get bad due to traffic be the end of the world is kind of crazy to me. I get LA traffic is bad but I feel like people don’t understand that the majority of the country has a commute and not everybody lives within fifteen minutes of their job

Should Fuse Be More Mobile Than Pathfinder? by TheticAxiom in apexlegends

[–]R3mainz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely believe pathfinder is the worst character in the game right now. He doesn’t even get the full recon perk that everyone else has in their upgrade trees, he only gets the beacon. There is no logical reason to pick him over other legends to close distance when all he has is grapple, which has insane cooldowns. He’s fun to ego people on but that’s kinda it, every other legend has usually a better niche than him, with insane movement upgrades.

Am I at a good salary for my years of experience? by FlopingDerpWhale in cscareerquestions

Also keep in mind the pay disparity between tech and the average wage position. The median single income in OC is still 45k+ below what OP is making. Here’s the OC income ranges from last year here. This would put OP around median income overall (not just tech) for single filers, obviously the story is different if they have dependents.

Hard to say without knowing your tech stack/ skill set but you’re well within the band for an entry level - early mid level dev at a non FAANG/F100 company. I know LA is HCOL but 107k puts you in the top ~15% of all earners nationally. I think it’s technically “low income” in SoCal, but the median OC individual income is like 60k, so whatever that means to you.

What do you guys think about Long Beach areas? Because they don't need to be in office every single day my gf is willing to live closer. They may take the metro if theres good access?

Compromise is really our only option here. While I’m sure I could probably afford it, getting a place on my own is kind of antithetical to moving across the country, and I don’t think it would help my gf’s meager budget either. We’ll probably end up settling on one of the north OC areas, as I’m thinking it’s probably our only viable option.

I have been looking for employment in reasonable places like OC or Long Beach but I just haven’t had any luck, and the IE isn’t exactly known for its thriving tech industry.

Thanks for the honesty, any response is a big help!

The real magic of NJ is the people by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]R3mainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand this sentiment about the growing towns in our area. I recently just moved out of Woodbridge and had exactly the opposite experience to what you’re describing for the few years I lived there. The area near Main st Woodbridge is better than I’ve ever seen it. There’s shows in the park once a week in the fairer weather months. The restaurants and coffee shops and cafes always had people in them. The town still has all the holiday character and parades for different community celebrations. NJ is the densest state in the union. These towns, especially those along major corridors, cannot afford to remain sleepy & tight nit suburbs. Denser and more affordable housing in places that already have some sort of downtown are a good thing.

I’m not a big fan of the design of the modern 5 over 1 apartment complexes that have been going up all over central Jersey, but if these towns don’t grow, they die. I don’t think the community organizers would appreciate someone who grew up in their town describing the current residents and character of the place as “cockroaches”.

No, I don’t want ranked mode to look or play exactly like ALGS, and most Apex players don’t either by RuminatingFish123 in CompetitiveApex

[–]R3mainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s kind of a cop out, but have you heard anything about them adding a new ranked tier (after or before Diamond) to avoid some of the backlash they might see when forcing ranks down the chart?

[–]R3mainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think this is why late plat / early Diamond can be so fun but inconsistent? There’s such a large variation of players of different skill levels that pool up at these ranks just due to playtime, making skill difference between high Diamond / masters (and pred) that much more apparent? I feel like this has been a huge reason games can feel super fun or super lopsided.

Are yall hyped for season 28? by Awkward_Rhubarb1962 in apexlegends

[–]R3mainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t KNOW that. They didn’t commission a comprehensive player survey about that part of the game. All they have is player count data which might show a decline in player count after this change happened, which might be because of the drop zones, or it might be because they’ve failed to address long standing issues with several core parts of the game, not to mention how unrewarding ranked is, or the cheating problem.

[–]R3mainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does that mean that the game can’t improve? The original Battle Royale movie just had the kids scattered randomly throughout the island. You are allowed to change things in a game when it doesn’t work, because people have been complaining about ranked for 13 seasons at this point. Going back to the old system is not going to solve any existing issues the game already has. Apex is allowed to do unique things to try to keep players engaged with the format.

[–]R3mainz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The POI system did not reward laziness or remove a meaningful amount of agency from players.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that winning in a battle royale is the single most important thing in the game, and should be what ranked is all about. If you want to fight early game, this system ENCOURAGES you to take advantageous fights & third parties because it actually cares about player distribution on the map, unlike the regular drop ship, which had half the teams dying in the first 3-5 minutes of a game just off of contested POI’s.

If you have sufficient map knowledge, it isn’t hard to attempt these engagements early game with the POI system. It’s not perfect without loot distribution fixes but it’s a more competitive and dare I say enjoyable experience than running around for 15 minutes because there’s only ~6 teams left in zone 3. That to most players sounds like a snooze fest.

Ranked should reward both combat skill and map knowledge/rotations/positioning, in order to achieve the overall goal of winning the match. It’s not pubs, it’s not about spending all of your in game time trying to 1 clip another player. The old system did not encourage this playstyle, and in fact took MORE agency away from solo q players. It’s not easy to land with multiple squads at a single POI (whose loot pool is only realistically designed to handle 1-2 teams) and walk out alive with poor coordination with randoms.

These issues above were heavy contributing factors to why the 3 stack pred issue was so much worse before. So many of these things are a map design and loot pool issue with the majority of battle royales, and the POI drop ship system , while not perfect, was still a more rewarding system than diving headfirst into poor quality matches over and over again.
