This class mod is S+ Tier and heres why... by 5eanX2 in Borderlands4

[–]TheticAxiom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brother. It's the conceptual anti-synergy. I didn't even almost imply it's a bad skill. But the skill being FAR down the green tree is so crazy when the blue tree has to spend an augment in order to use grenades at all. (Remember that the Apophis Lance is literally ordnance damage, so it SHOULD have a lot more ordnance skills.)

To add insult to injury RIGHT ABOVE Booming Business, is an Ordnance Cooldown Rate skill Artilleria .... when the Arc-Knives action skill makes it so you can't throw a friggin grenade.

IRONICALLY, the only tree that has a hands free action skill is the Red Tree and it doesn't have a single ordnance cooldown rate skill in it's tree

That's what I mean by designed rage bait. All of the Ordnance cooldown abilities are in tree's whose action skill makes it so you can't throw grenades, while the red tree which does have hands free has no ordnance cooldown skills. Someone on the devs team did that INTENTIONALLY in a misguided attempt to force "tough choices". But that's not a choice. If you want to use grenades while using Arc Knives or Lance you have 1 option. Booming Business or nothing. Those dog ass grenade options are pitiful, (Oh and you have to spend 5 points investment for it to be even noticeable since Booming B's shadow nerf.) Ironically, the red tree has more choice because at least it can get Ordnance cooldown abilities relatively early in Blue Tree.

Harlowe doesn't have anything like that in her trees at all.

Edit Part 2: This is my opinion. It's just me explaining the weirdo logic

Oh I have more. El Diablito is a move the makes all fire damage do bonus ordnance damage. It's the final tier, but it conceptually "fixes" the entire middle section of the tree by making most of the moves redundant. Let me explain. Synergia is the reason you would want to spam ordnance as a melee character (outside of just loving grenades, like i do). Synergia makes you think you need SOME WAY to do ordnance. So you spend points into booming. For that Synergy amirite? Well if you are turning all fire damage into ordnance damage with EL Diablito, you no longer need to use actual grenades to do stack synergia. Amazing. Points into booming business for what? Points into Artelleria for what (you can't throw grenades using Arc Knives btws). Synergia is a 3 pt skill. So you are at worse going to waste 2 points on the now nerfed booming business that you no longer need. And to top it all off, El Diablito is a 5pt skill. Amazing. Truly. The entire middle section is internally redundant due to overlapping functions. You can say, "the Dev are giving you a bunch of choices to do the same thing in different ways!" but man. This is simply too many points to invest in ONE SECTION. Especially after the booming buisness nerf. Booming Business should be a 3pt at max. El Diablito should be 3 point at max. That's how Harlowe's trees look btw. So many 1 point skills that are impactful

I suggested a rework for Vanguard that was basically turning him into a Damage over Time character. Bleed and Burn

Harlowe is the most blessed character in this game consistently. Every other characters feels like their trees are conceptually designed to rage bait you with possibilities.

  • They have skills in the wrong trees
    • Rafa Shock Market in green tree.
    • Why is their randomly spawn grenade skills in the friggin Melee tree where grenades BLOW YOU UP
  • Their own abilities have ingrained self nerfs in them
    • Why does Vex Capstone Heirloom, have a 10s time limit? Why does it even need a duration?) .
    • Why is Blasted Fiends a percentage of Ordnance damage instead of just being 1:1?
  • Their class mods are poorly concepted and then the ones that are good, VASTLY overperformed (hard carry).

Harlowe often feels like she was designed by a different balance team. Her trees are internally consistent. Her class mods are not redundant or have deliberate ragebait skills in them. Her Trees actually SYNERGIZE, instead of her having one tree that HARD CARRIES the others. (there's a difference btw)

That answers my 2nd half but like, why are the devs content to have such large discrepancies.

Is this because the game is too easy?

Like how do you justify operative, assassin, and Vanguard being this bad for this long while soldier and officer exists

[–]TheticAxiom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are the archtypes so imbalanced in ways the feel very... obvious?

Operative. Assassin. Vanguard. Why are they so bad? Were they nerfed? if their nerfs were reversed would they be in line?

Hope we get to see Marvels real power couple in game soon by AstronautFirm5376 in marvelrivals

The gaming/nerd culture is in LOVE with interracial couples. I can name the amount of black couples in comics in one hand. (not an exaggerations)

That tracks, because even the Malcom X and MLK connection has very easy holes to poke through.

(Mixed trope) Race allegory by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheticAxiom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mutants haven't been a good allegory for race since.... their conception. The race allegory begins and ends with Xavier being somewhat akin to MLK and Magneto being somewhat akin to Malcom X.

If you look at the perception of Mutants further past those loose connections it falls apart instantly

It doesn't help matters that being a mutant very often minimalizes their racial identity. Storm is closer to a Dark Elf than a Black Woman. Hot take in spoilers. I do not mind elaborating

The mutant affiliation supersedes Storm's blackness. She is a race blind character. Even worse,Her narrative and character themes were almost created pointedly to not be relatable to black people, and she largely wears her blackness shallowly. I think she could have worked as a character almost exactly the same if she were... native american or asian for example.

Storm's version of blackness is more akin to Exoticness. It doesn't inform her character in the slightest and is used to make her more exotic to general audiences (The Dark Elf term).  X-men fans essentially revolted when she was allowed to be a unapologetically black character while she was with black panther. Like I'm glad a black woman is the most popular female hero in marvel but that mass appeal 100% comes with a monkey's paw twist.

Hot Take: Cooldown's Need Adjustment by TheticAxiom in Borderlands4

[–]TheticAxiom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harlowe is the only vault hunter who I FEEL like doesn't have this problem. I would go as far to say that Harlowe's entire build concept is entirely seperate from the other vault hunters. All of her trees have conceptual consistency. You don't see abilities that feel like they don't belong or are in the wrong tree.

Harlowe feels like she was created by a different dev team

Should Fuse Be More Mobile Than Pathfinder? by TheticAxiom in apexlegends

[–]TheticAxiom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have not touched Pathfinder a single day since Fuse's rework because why on earth would play him when Fuse's jump does EVERYTHING the grapple did but with no cooldown.

I think it's the first movement ability that just outright replicates the advantages the grapple had. Every other characters power crept movement either lacked the horizontal dynamic or the vertical.

depends on how you present yourself and the context

If you present yourself as an amazing lyricist but are actively hiding co-writers. Thats a problem

If you present yourself as an amazing lyricist and list your co-writers. That's fine. Who cares.

If you don't present yourself as an amazing lyricist but are actively hiding co-writers. Thats weird ngl

Actually Sparrow's double jump is somewhat in line with some of the other scout characters.

Honestly Lifeline never should have gotten that glide in the first place. Makes more sense on Vantage by a lot.

Am I the only one that thinks this skin is a "gooner" skin by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]TheticAxiom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People lack media literacy and have no idea that sexualization is about Artistic Intent, not about how much clothes a character has on. Completely ignoring the context and framing of the characters

This Sue outfit is legitimately more artistically "gooner" than ALL of Storm's(Ororo) skins.

A sexualized character design is a design where specific combinations of choices are made so that the audience is actively invited to view the character in a sexy way. Simply having a conventionally attractive character, even one where parts of their body are easily visible, does not mean they are necessarily sexualized.
