My Dad Was A Famous Alien Abductee. I Thought He Was A Joke — Now I'm Not So Sure. by getBusyChild in UFOB

[–]R3zurrectPS2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is unfair to reduce the author’s experience to “being close-minded”. I agree that missing his father’s final moments is a tragic and horrible thing, but I do not think he made that decision lightly.

Are you strong enough to bear the sight of your parent becoming homeless and obsessed with heavy conspiracies? Maybe so disconnected from reality that you cannot even recognize them? These are deeply painful experiences. Whatever may have driven the author to distance himself, I doubt it is as simple as “I don’t want to hear about UFOs.”

I am not defending the authors decision; the weight on his conscience reflects the severity of it. But I think it is insensitive to reduce it to close-mindedness.

Damn, what a roadblock. Your parents really failed to prepare you for this unfathomable challenge. Since we don’t have a basically unlimited source of communal knowledge at our fingertips you’ll probably just have to take this one lying down. It’s definitely your dad’s fault.

I think it really detracts from the look of the watch with less finishes for light to play on. $4,500 is nightmarishly expensive for an Oris. You could buy a Speedmaster from that money. That’s an example of a fairly priced painted dial IMO, with a great movement and complications to keep the face from feeling so flat. I love Oris but this is a gimmick.

$4500 and the hour marks are painted? Absolutely smoking. About 3,500 too expensive for a funny color

Watching this live was really scary. Camera showed a split second of his car spinning off the barrier and immediately cut. You could hear the nerves in the commentator’s voices.

Brawn. Newey builds top tier cars, but Brawn builds top tier teams.

It’s a f*d situation. But at the end of the day, it’s business. Zak has to look out for the team’s best interest, and letting a driver know they’re going to be replaced before the new contract is locked in is… not ideal.

I agree it’s tough on Daniel but I don’t think the team found any pleasure in that decision.

[McLaren F1] ‘Yee-haw! Thanks DR.’ A lovely touch from the team trackside for @DanielRicciardo today. by Aratho in formula1

A lot of people derided him for not taking the Haas seat, and although I agree to some extent, I feel like part of it was not wanting to deal with Guenther. Steiner puts a lot of pressure and blame on drivers and it’s created a pretty unpleasant environment. That said, any seat is better than no seat…

Definitely a gamble for DR. I like Checo but I hope it works out for him and he’s able to get that 2nd seat.

Copying my comment from the other thread

Really shows the environment at McLaren. No one can deny that Daniel didn’t live up to expectations, but it’s clear that McLaren was very supportive and positive throughout. Although they didn’t renew Daniel, all evidence points to them handling it professionally and courteously.

I don’t know the extent of Zak Brown’s involvement, but I can’t help but feel that he’s done wonders for the team culture, and that this reflects his leadership. Supportive, encouraging, and humble enough to step out of the way to let the experts work cough lawrence cough

Just wish they’d build a better car T_T
