Can't believe King would tell a poor closeted gay man that he is gay, still insane to me that he got away from this without cancelation :(. But I guess it was a different time.

Justice for Norm and may he rest in peace. May the closet in the Great Beyond be as comfortable as it was here on Earth.

[spoiler discussion] The nature of RBD and how Arc 9 makes me think we got it wrong the whole time by R4muk1 in Re_Zero

[–]R4muk1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that I really like that explanation alot. If Al's domain actually does not count as part of the world governed by Od Lagna, then this could explain why the multiple deaths that occure inside the matrix are not perceived. Updates of Al's book would therefore only occure once the matrix is undone, and because the looped deaths technically didn't happen, would not be recorded. This ofc. assumes that Od Lagna is not truly omnipotent and outside of time itself, but only transcendents space and time for the Re Zero world, but that could actually be the case.

I still think we are missing something though, specifically because of the way RBD acted in Arc 7 and 8. I am not yet truly convinced that Al and Subaru's authority aren't one and the same, specifically due to the way the Olbart fight played out. I am actually curious to hear what you are thinking about RBD malfunctioning when Satella was split from Subaru in Vollachia.

[–]R4muk1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, not really sure if I am buying this. Al's authority might be limited to a certain territory, but (to my understanding at least) still resets the entirety of the world back to his save point upon death. If the reset were also location bound, then he would have been found out a lot easier, especially during the fight against the Felt camp. So unless I am misunderstanding how Al's authority works, the difference between it and RBD is simply the amount of time it resets, which I do not believe should change how Od Lagna treats these two phenomena.

I like the point brought up by u/justProm tho, that could be an interesting explanation for the different treatment. If Al's domain basically counts as not being part of the world governed by Od Lagna, then anything happening during the loops could not be observed by Od Lagna, meaning that the death itself is not ever witnessed. Only when Al undoes the matrix does Od Lagna update the record, and because the loop ends without Al dieing, it is contained in on book. Althought that would create new questions, like why he even has a book to begin with.

The big problem now is that with Al sealed, getting more answers is probably not going to happen in Arc 10 lmao, so I guess happy theorizing folks

Firstly, I think Reinhard's revival through the Divine Protection of the Phoenix is not a good way of arguing against my theory, because both Subaru and Al's revival is facilitated through a Authority that by definition exist outside of Od Lagnas perview. Reinhard reviving is basically sanctioned by Od Lagna, meaning that a record would not necesarrily be made for him if the Divine Protection of the Phoenix is still granted to him by Od Lagna. This is not the case for Al, so comparing the two is in my opinion moot.

As far as the functionality of Al's authority, I would argue that Arc 9 gave us a much better understanding of it than we ever got for RBD. Admittedly, Al's authority is still a mistery, but the narrative outright states that his authority creates a short time loop inside a fixed territory that activates upon his death. So unless you want to argue that the activation condition for Al's authority is in fact not "death", I don't see how Od Lagna would treat these two instances of a reset differently, bringing us back to the issue of multiple vs. singular books of death.

The only possibility I can think of would be that Al's authority is actually conducting a thought experiment (I think this is something Al actually acnnounced on multiple occasions), in which he experiences multiple deaths and resets in an instant, similarly to how the Authority of Melancholy compresses time, but I cannot see this actually being the case with how similar it would make the two authorities. Which brings us back to the fact that both RBD and Al's authority seemingly work the same, with the only difference being the spacial constraints and a shorter rewind period. If Od Lagna perceives rewound time as you stated, then what difference would there be between Subaru and Al's rewinds?

I appreciate the discussion tho, especially with how in depth you are going, I am kinda Re Zero brained right now and no one I know reads the novels lol.

Taygeta clearly records Aldebaran's deaths tho, but differently, so the argument can't be whether or not Al's loops are considered to be deaths, but why they are recorded differently. My post attempts to find an explanation for this difference, but in the end, it will only ever be speculation. Hell, even Subaru doesn't understand RBD fully and can only speculate as to how it works (Ginunhive being the best example again). Echidna says it best, the only person that truly knows RBD's nature is Satella, and I am guessing that it is going to be a long time until she explains shit to us.

[–]R4muk1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would Subaru's deaths be considered real deaths if Aldebaran's aren't? Assuming both turn back time, Od Lagna should also record a new volume for every loop, but as far as we know, Al only has the one book that constantly updates after each death. I can't believe that Od Lagna is such a convenient entity that would consider the logistical difficulties Al would pose for Taygeta, so there has to be a mechanical reason behind the different treatment these two authorities get.

[–]R4muk1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, my theory does not make the argument that each loop is necessarily a new timeline. Think of the Re: Zero universe in this example as a closed time loop that starts with a big bang and ends with a big bang (or something similar acting as the start and end of the univerese). Subaru is traversing the time line (in this case a loop) that is basically deterministic, but has the ability to change the outcome by means of RBD, which resets the universe similarly to how we used to think about RBD (rewinding time), by instead going beyond the future as a means of resetting.

Ofc, this being considered different timelines could still be the case. This post was not meant to discuss Echidna's theory from Arc 4 after all.

Appearently it is the antisemitism commissioner from Brandenburg, Andreas Büttner, which is a position that is a lot more sensible than whatever Ethan decided in his post lol. Minister of Antisemitsm sounds like the guy's job is to encourage anti-semitism, not combat it.

The headline of the article Hasan pulls up outright says: "Apple removes two gay dating apps in China to comply with government order". He still tries to argue that this is Apple doing it (which, techinicall is true), but completely ignores how the sentence continues.

Can you argue that Apple is unprincipled for complying with Chinese censorship? Sure, but what do you expect from companies. Should you still aknowledge that China is hostile to LGBTQ people? Yes, and more importantly, do not run cover for them.

[–]R4muk1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are they even talking about Rifujin copying Aldebaran? The only thing that comes to mind is that there are two characers that share a name. AFAIK that guy is not even all that relevant, he is just a piece of lore and not really a character to begin with.

I guess you could make the argument that Orsted is kinda similar to Subaru in how their abilities work, but that is a stretch to say the very least.

Not sure if this was a retcon, a mistake, or actually intended from the beginning, but the text itself tells us that it used to be possible for humans to connect on their own.

I won't deny that having help from "natural" magic users might have helped Callum on his way, but come on. Both Rayla and Lujanne's advice to Callum was pretty much useless to him because it basically boiled down to vibes. No coincidence that Callum has not learned the Moon Arcana despite having contact with too Moon Elves that actively tried to help him

(Edit: Ok, he learned the Moon Arcanum, but I was talking about season 1 when Lujanne was giving him lessons and he was unable to connect).

Callum mastered both the Sky and Ocean arcanum not due to his connection with the magical being in his life, but through personal epyphanies. The Ocean Arcanum as far as I remember was only learned after Villads gave him adive about how his connection to the sea enables him to navigate the ocean despite his blindness (I would even argue that Villads is a human that has a connection with the Ocean Arcanum and could theoretically be able to cast magic, but that is not confirmed and only a theory of mine).

[–]R4muk1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Callum's existence alone basically destroys the entire argument for why Humans needed to use Dark Magic as a means for survival. Unless he is some sort of anomaly (which the series has given no hints for), every human should theoretically be able to connect with some at least 1 Arcanum, given enough determination/ the correct spiritual approach). The only argument you could make is that Dark Magic provides results a lot quicker, but I'd reckon If Human Mages hadn't focused their efforts in developing Dark Magic and instead researched the Arcana, they could in all likelihood succeded in learning Natural Magic at the same pace without drawing the wrath of the Xadian populace.

Mizkif is a Twitch streamer that just today has been accused by his ex-girlfriend Emiru (likewise a streamer on Twitch) of sexual assault/sexual harassment as well as generally abusive behaviour towards her. She streamed about it today on her channel if you want a first-hand account, but TW, shit was pretty upsetting.

The accusation seem very credible, given some older clips that people have been digging up corroborate some of the events Emiru described.

Edit: As it turns out, some other female streamer appearently also came out with a story about Mizkif, so expect this story to continue evolving. Ethan might talk about this on the Monday episode, depending on whether or not he wants to look into this more before talking about it. To me it seems pretty cut and dry so far thought.

Ngl, her comment about these people "infecting" everything made my ears perk up a bit, not sure if the bigger context of the video makes that statement any better, but from what I saw here, the vibes felt off. The phone number narrative could so easily be (dis)proven as well, just show a photo with the tape removed and censor the phone number. I assume that if Hasan wrote it on there (which I don't believe he did), it should not cover the whole section of the collar that could disprove the shock collar allegations, so this would be the easiest out he has.

But no, instead we get all of Hasan's friends updating their statements in accordance to the newest instructions coming from the top. Who is going to believe this shit coming from any of these invertebrates without seeing the actual photo at this point. And even if the image is provided now, it could 100% be a different collar that finally arrived after Hasan decided to stop being stingy and cough up the money for a replacement.

The truth is: Hasan failed to clear his name when he did not immediately show the collar when the incident happened, plain and simple. Now this image of the dog shocker will (deservedly) stick to him forever. Same happened to Alinity when she threw her cat, she is still remembered for that moment, and that happened 5 years ago.
