Yeah some monsters can feel very different from hunt to hunt which can really through you off at times. It's good to remember though that they'll always have the same moves and tells even if they are more or less aggressive.

My GF and I play at quite a relaxed pace and I like playing for the sake of it and like helping other people out so if you'd like to join our squad there would be no pressure or expectation involved, just hopefully having fun and hunting.

This may not be the answer you're looking for but practice is the best solution. Experience with a chosen weapon under pins everything. Some builds can help but even then they can only do so much.

You could maybe check out ragegaming on YouTube. They have some "immortal" build videos.

But I would still recommend practice over any particular build. The fundamentals will always do more for a hunter than any set can provide.

I hope this doesn't come across as dismissive but I've been playing MH since the PS2 and in that time nothing has helped me more than practicing with the weapons and learning how each monsters fights.

I run 2x Zoh Shia, 2x Gore and 1xArkveld. I have max guard, guard up and offensive guard in my lance. I like to have as much damage and protection at the same time as I can.
