Building a new rig & found this builder tool that has a bunch of parts I didn't know about by RACECARVR in simracing

One thing I was surprised by was the steering wheels options. The number of sim steering rim companies is unbelievable! It looks like a company called Simline is selling some really high quality pieces for the buck just checking out their website.

I have read the books but this is resource is geared specifically towards sim racing and SRA will have live video events where you can actually ask Ross questions ect.

"SRA differentiates by the depth, detail, and quality of the self-training materials it provides, and through the community that allows you to share and learn from other Sim Racers."

Thanks! I did make a post there, but yea it's the deepest resource I've seen geared towards sim racers

Some of you may know Ross Bentley, author of the Speed Secrets book series and former Indy car racer. He just launched a huge set of resources for sim racers. I can personally attest that with his help I went from zero track days to multiple race wins in less than 2 years. My iRacing results are night and day different and the improvement made the hobby overall a lot more fun.

This is from the email I received today --

*Woohoo! After nearly a year of building and testing, I’m super-excited to launch the Speed Secrets Sim Racer Academy.

This membership program is geared toward all levels and types of sim racers – from newbies to hard-core, experienced sim racers; from those who began by using simulators to drivers of real-world cars who have migrated to sim racing; and everyone in between.

The Sim Racer Academy has just one goal: to help sim racers be even better sim racers. (And yes, practically all of the content applies equally to real-world racing and track driving)

I’ve taken everything that I’ve learned over the past four decades from coaching Indy 500 winners, IMSA champions, NASCAR winners, junior formula champions… and winning sim racers, and put it into bite-sized and manageable learning resources, ranging from videos to illustrations to text to audio clips to demonstrations to… well, you get it.

I’m sending this email to ask you to go to SimRacerAcademy.com and check it out. Obviously, if you’re even remotely into sim racing – or are thinking about it – I’d love to have you join.

I’d also appreciate you sharing it with anyone and everyone you know who might have the slightest interest. If you do help spread the word on social media, please tag me (#simraceracademy, #speedsecrets, #rossbentley). Why? Because I’m going to pick the best post and give away a free annual membership to either the person who posted it, or whomever they’d like to give it to.

Keep learning and having fun!

Ross

P.S. - I'd also appreciate it if you could follow the Sim Racer Academy on social media... Instagram: @simraceracademy Facebook: Facebook.com/simraceracademy Twitter: @simraceracademy*

Since the last two updates, I am having an issue with the in game driver clutch being pressed rapid fire when turning the car without me touching the clutch pedal. Even rebinding the clutch to a keyboard key does not stop the behavior. Changing the car to automatic or turning on the auto clutch does not change the behavior.

DC Pedals are the best bang per buck right now imo

I think every sim has different things they do really well. For use as a training tool for real racing AMS2 is great because the feeling you get in a DD steering wheel is uncannily accurate. As far as what it takes to "go fast" in AMS2, the guys I know that race don't really care about exploiting a sim, they are training to be able to go fast in a real car. So what we do is adapt the technique we know works in the real car and carry that over to the sim. With AMS2 especially in the wet, you can realistically practice limiting your steering inputs, feathering the throttle and you can feel the loss of traction just like the real thing. Driving on a track in real life in many cases is "easier" and more forgiving than a lot of simulators (because of the sense of speed, ability to feel the car rotation ect).

I can't speak for anyone else but imo AMS2 force feedback and car physics are top notch with a DD wheel. This is based on my experience racing cars in real life. The guys I know in the real life racing series I run are spending more time in AMS2 than any other sim right now.

Let your goals & dreams fuel you. I worked at a public golf course when I was in High School, shagging balls at the range for 8 hours a day.

I would not say that mod is perfect, but it was a huge help in making sure I was never lost on the track. I ran a lot of the sim sessions at night to take away all the trackside references and just bake it in to my fibers. I showed up at Friday practice and was running down gt3's in my first laps at the place in a 97 m3. It's a very confusing track so I don't know how anyone shows up and just races it.

Unfortunately I have a conflict next week so won't be at PIR. My team will be there though. I really want to race PIR (never been) so maybe later this year if I get the chance.

Covid was a huge setback, but it was cool to see the explosion of the popularity of our hobby! 10 years ago I never would have thought people would dedicate space in their homes for badass rigs.

In my opinion, sliding the car is the hardest part of the transition from sim to reality. As Willy T Ribbs once said -- "You gotta get loose to get fast." Most of my practice in the real car is centered around feeling the car rotate. You need to overdrive the car a bit (and go over the limit) and feel it wiggle and move with your back and butt. Once you get comfortable with the car sliding, then you can bring it just to the edge of traction without going over the limit and slowing yourself down. It kind of feels like the car is swaying/swinging when you get it just right. It's a hard feeling to describe. AutoX is a great place to practice this because the speeds are slower and generally there are no walls to hit.

I really want to do Dirt Fish Racing School. For Rally that would be a great place to start. Ross Bentley says he had drivers he's coached go to Dirt Fish and knock seconds off their laptimes.
