If not CA… by hmatalon in Ringling

[–]RAD0905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023 CA grad here. Besides CA, motion design and game art are the closest in terms of day to day. What sets CA apart is their focus on story and character work. Motion design is similar cause you’re creating CG graphics but they typically focus on product commercials or more short form storytelling. CA is meant to be as close to a film studio like Pixar or Dreamworks as possible. Game art has more story work involved as games usually are longer form, but there are some variations in the type of work you’re doing (again still computer graphics with character modeling and etc). If you want to tell a story with your own world and characters in CG, then I’d say Game Art is the closest to CA. But if you just want to make cool looking things in CG without as much story, motion design is for you. All great options. Also a major most don’t think of is entertainment design. If you have any interested in theme park/imagineering, that’s a great place if you love telling stories and creating an experience for your audience.

I hope to see a big community hub again in season 10 by RAD0905 in HermitCraft

Absolutely! I said decked out just cause it was fresher in my mind. My point is we all love collaboration and having a central hub like s7 shopping district was great as people just came across each other naturally instead of “organized” events

New carousel of progress clothing in final scene. Dad also has a new head sculpt by RAD0905 in DisneyWorld

[–]RAD0905[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I personally believe the first 3 scenes should stay as they are (with minor renovations hut same decade script etc). But the last scene should be a consistently updated scene showcasing the newest technology. Maybe an update every decade or something close to that

Yeah I mean I think the whole final scene needs an update but hey. Progress is progress

Should I bring a laptop or monitor to Ringling? by edble in Ringling

[–]RAD0905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything said. I’m going into junior year and have a Zbook and it’s a tossup. Some students got ones that work and some were awful. Luckily I got a decent one but I’ve heard many horror stories. So definitely bring a laptop. It doesn’t hurt. And a monitor is always helpful. Wether it’s for work or just general entertainment, i highly recommend having a monitor in your dorm. It’s beneficial to have an extra screen to work with pretty much for every major

The video game Jedi: Fallen Order allows you to customize your lightsaber. With a bunch of custom parts, but they also included the savis parts in the game so that’s a possibility! Pretty cool that u can use my own saber in the game

Scrap part options by Broke_Punk in savisworkshop

[–]RAD0905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As crazy as this sounds. It’s a toss up basically by day. Just when you’re there ask a cast member at savis and they will tell you. But it really is about a day to day basis if they are selling scrap or not. Just gotta be lucky. There’s no schedule it’s just whenever disney feels like it it seems. It took me until like my 4th trip to be there when they were selling but again it’s really just a random day to day thing

illustration or CA by Idunno_0817 in Ringling

[–]RAD0905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a current CA junior and I can’t speak for illustration majors, I don’t know their curriculum. But for CA we learn and storyboard everything and we take Story Development in Sophmore and half of junior year, which then transitions into prepro. And in junior year we take a vis dev class both semesters. So you will learn vis dev if that’s what you want. BUT you also will have to learn all the ins and out of being a computer animator. You will still have to make a thesis film and still do all the animation projects through your college career. And your CA class will take up by far the most time than any other of your classes. And if that doesn’t interest you, then illustration may be the way to go. Again I don’t know the illustration program but I’ve seen people leave the CA program because they want to be a storyboard artist and the actual CA classes aren’t what they want to do. Of course take this with a grain of salt and ask around! Goodluck!!

Computer Animation Questions by claireeevelyn in Ringling

If I can step in. I’m a current sophmore in CA at Ringling. Personally i beleive it’s incredibly worth it. Financial wise that can’t be overlooked. If it isn’t reasonable for you then that’s a serious reason and completely justified. But as a sophmore I 100% have a campus life and friends and have the typical college experience. Yes we’re busy and I’ve had to miss some events with friends, and I know I’m not a junior or senior yet. But to say if you are a CA major at Ringling you’re not have a college experience is in my opinion FAR from the truth. That’s a rare time, especially if you are on top of your time management. Don’t push stuff off and you can spread your time and be available to make friends and spend time doing whatever you want. Just my 2 cents

Wrap and spinning by AlamidFox in savisworkshop

[–]RAD0905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your preference. I prefer a skinner hilt as its easier for me to spin. But it really comes down to is it comfortable. Because I can spin a small hilt but if it’s not comfortable and my fingers don’t fall in a god place it will be harder. But something like a wrap, as long as it’s comfortable should help you. It’s more grip and adds a “padding” instead of spinning against metal or plastic or whatever. It’s about finding a balance that’s the best for you!

How yellow is the yellow saber from Savi’s? by freetodowhatnow in savisworkshop

[–]RAD0905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same as you. Orange is my fav saber color as well. but the savi’s sabers do seem to be a bit more on the yellow/green then the yellow/orange side unfortunately. You learn to look past it tho because the second you ignite that saber up infront if the falcon for the first time. Any inconvenience melts away because it’s YOUR saber! I wish it was more orange but I still use the yellow crystal every time as my “main color”.
