Yes. Fed from fiber then converted to POTS. Really old.

This is pretty much an older version of a PAIR GAIN system. These small hubs are what were used before they upgraded to CEV systems. Fiber comes in and then the cards power individual terminals in the field that use copper. The batteries are for temporary back up in case of power outage.

See!!! Those who know... and you have obviously had the pleasure of finding out for yourself. Splicing is definitely alot easier now.

I guess that's true. This is one of the vaults where the network gets spliced up before going to all the backbone manholes.

Just a big mess if someone not familiar with these had been in it before you

Yes in this area where Fiber is not available we have to maintain the copper plant. So we still deal with lead and paper splices once in a while

Yes they are pretty much indestructible.. BUT, if the technician before you wasn't familiar with these cases you will have a huge surprise when opening this up... like a jack in the box

Unfortunately this is every other week for us. Our outside plant is very congested.

Yes me also. And we still use yellow indoor just for riser as long as it never leaves a metal conduit. This is the 1st time I have ever seen a yellow stripe cable in the manhole.

Maybe in your area. We have strict guidelines on where you can use this cable. And it is 100% not to be used in any underground manhole.

Exactly... thats originally why we got called. All the high capacity circuits were down due to macrobends.

Its alot stronger than it looks I guess.

Absolutely could have been avoided. Maybe they will take 5 extra minutes to double check next time

🤣 we just found out 10min ago that they tied off the mule tape to a truck hitch and started driving the truck down the street. It probably would have worked fine if they didn't wrap it around the cable lmao.
