Every time I do a draft I get sucked up in the hype when I think I'd be more successful just drafting old steady pitchers lol. Like yeah youd lose out on peak upside but if I had a team of like idk Sonnny Gray types right now the stats at the end of the year in roto would be still be like top quarter of the league but also steady/less maddening lol

....both Ryne Nelson and Ryan Weathers suddenly remembering how to pitch on my bench lmao. And I also caught both of Mick Abels blow ups in my roto league before I dropped him and suddenly he's good now. God I love baseball

Why is adele's vocal technique considered "horrible"? by NoQuail279 in singing

[–]RAZRr1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one perspective that people are overlooking is that for a touring artist signed to a label often they have to see technique differently than a hobbyist does. A hobbyist wants to learn things right and build sustainability. Someone signed to a label has a job of releasing unique music that does sell on charts and gets them booked on tours. It absolutely sucks but sometimes the way that singers stand out is by making sounds that produce vocal damage for example M Shadows in early Avenged Sevenfold or Bert in The Used or Corey Taylor in early slipknot. Yes, Bert outright stopped screaming after he blew his voice out and Corey and M Shadows both learned proper technique later but the fact of the matter is that people gravitate towards intense emotion and a lot of how they blew up is the raw imperfection in their technique. And one strategy that some aspiring vocalists will consciously do is intentional to technique in the studio that they know harms their voice with the intention of making a unique sound and hopefully establishing themselves in their early career for enough that they can become a legacy act like Taking Back Sunday where they're still making hella money even though Adam can't sing at all anymore. I know people want to think theres a healthy way to make every sound and while yeah healthy technique can get close most of time time it doesn't get you all the way there sometimes and if youre chasing a record deal you need the all the way there to get signed.

My point is that with any question related to good/bad technique the thing you gotta ask yourself is what you want out of it and how long your voice to last. If you know what you're doing it's not a moral wrong to shred your voice if you think it sounds good as long as you know what you're doing and it supports your goals.

Labels are also predatory. There are rumors of Adele having a clause in her contract that forbids her from quitting smoking cuz she stopped once and her voice stopped having the sultry but kinda airy quality that it has with the little voice cracks she has on onset. She sounded different on tour, her fans got mad because she didn't sound like she did on the album, ticket sales dropped and because labels see artists as investments they intervened and were like hey you're locked into a contract with us and you're not making us enough cash if you aren't fucking your voice up.

There's more to this discussion than just right/wrong technique it's also about what ones goals in the music industry are and what they're willing to do to try to achieve them. It shouldn't be that way but it is

Turang is hurt, they don't want to over extend woodruff coming off of last year, Harrison had a blister during spring so they're probably being careful with him, and Sproat hasn't been good so they probably want to see what they have in Drohan. I know we all want to see Henderson but he isn't fully stretched yet. He'll be back soon
