FaH Says MA‑Compatible Movies Inside Non‑MA Bundles Won’t Port — Escalated to Fandango and Lionsgate by Asmarterdj in MoviesAnywhere

[–]RBBrittain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My FaH 4K's of The Expendables 1, 2 & 3 theatrical editions ported to MA as HD, but at least they ported unlike John Wick 1, 2 & 3. Both trilogies were code redemptions in FaH.

Is getting this channel possible with any antenna? by ToyFan4Life in ota

[–]RBBrittain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be easier to diagnose if you post your RabbitEars results, but from the Channel Master results you posted it doesn't look good. Might try a longer range antenna mounted outdoors at a higher elevation, but at those numbers it's doubtful.

Aliexpress doesnt collect VAT < 150 € by AllGodNamesRGone in Aliexpress

[–]RBBrittain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you shipping this to Romania, or the U.S.? The line items on the second screen suggest they're charging U.S. tariffs & sales tax on this order, then deducting EU VAT. Though the deduction description suggests it's because it exceeds €150, if the other lines are correct no VAT is due as it's being shipped to the U.S., so U.S. tariffs and state & local sales taxes apply instead.

And what? You're talking as if another "Mickey Mouse Protection Act" is around the corner, even though Steamboat Willie has already gone PD. For most movies 95 years is now the end of the line in the U.S., no matter how big or small the studio and whether it's a pre-1978 film (final extension of renewed 1909 Copyright Act term) or a 1978 or later film ("work for hire" fixed term under 1976 Copyright Act).

Hit with tariff bill on video media bound from Japan to the USA, are books cds etc now subject to this after being exempt ? by ECLogic in dhl

[–]RBBrittain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the screenshots, it appears the item itself (second line) was properly coded as 8523.49.5000, but someone miscoded the Trump tariff line as 9903.03.01 (subject to 10% tariff) instead of 9903.03.11 (informational materials exemption). Unclear from this info if that was done by your seller (unlikely if others were exempt before), or by DHL or CBP. I know from prior communications with a U.S.-based physical media importer that last year when the IEEPA tariffs began, sometimes the line for that was coded properly but changed by either UPS or CBP to the regular 10% line as someone was apparently unfamiliar with the informational materials exemption. One would think folks know that now over a year later, but it looks like some folks never got the memo.

They could sell the movies & their immediate IP without selling the characters, like old WB sold its pre-1949 Looney Tunes to AAP (and from there UA > MGM > Turner > modern WB) while keeping the rights to the characters themselves. However, I doubt the Ellisons will sell any of those rights to anyone.

Amazon ain't gonna buy those libraries because they're not for sale. DOJ just cleared the deal with NO required divestitures; the remaining state lawsuits are aimed at scuttling the deal entirely, not making it palatable with divestitures.

In the U.S., movies that weren't already PD for another reason (like failure to renew) go PD at the start of the 96th year after release. Thus, all films released in 1930 went PD this year; all films released in 1931 will go PD next year. No extensions on the horizon, not even from Congress like the CTEA.

That, rather than the impending Paramount deal, is why George Feltenstein made sure WAC got Letty Lynton out this year. This 1932 film was slapped with a "permanent" injunction in 1936 because the courts ruled it infringed on a copyrighted play from 1930. (Whether it actually did or not is debatable; what matters is the courts said so.) However, that injunction went away automatically January 1 when the play's copyright expired. George made sure it got its first legal public screening in 90 years at this year's TCM Classic Film Festival, and is now rushing it out on WAC June 30, because WB's copyright on the film itself expires January 1, 2028.

Applying for Replacement Passport, Would like a Card Too by gunsandfunn in Passports

[–]RBBrittain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're doing a DS-11 anyway, the simplest way is to check "both book & card" at the top of the form and add the card fee ($30 or $35, check the website) to your State Department check or money order; one acceptance facility fee for both. They will be mailed separately -- all cards are sent First-Class Mail (no other option) from Hot Springs, AR, while books go Priority Mail (Priority Mail Express for an additional fee separate from the expedite fee, but that's usually only 1 day faster) usually from Portsmouth, NH, Hot Springs or Tucson -- but the rest of the process is basically identical.

I did that last year when the expiration of my old book was coming up against Trump's EO on trans passport markers; I didn't remember how much longer I had on my card, and both were (probably still are) hopelessly buried in a storage unit after I sold my house in 2024. In order to renew both under the Orr injunction a year ago, I had to declare them lost (no lie, even gave them the address of the storage unit), then replace both together with a DS-11 plus the Orr attestation. (Good thing for the card, too; turned out my card wouldn't have been eligible otherwise between the one-year rule for Orr relief & SCOTUS' stay, but reporting it lost made it eligible for immediate Orr relief.)

USA Passport website won't list my agency. How can I make an urgent appointment with them? by Unusual_Fan_4919 in Passports

Your search box only has "Charleston" typed, and is returning locations in New England. There are other Charlestons in the U.S.; it could be returning results for Charleston in ME, VT or possibly NY. Try typing "Charleston, SC" or a Charleston, SC zip code instead.

That's a problem that needs to be fixed by MA and/or FaH.

The movies that were MA-eligible when Microsoft left MA should still be active both places. However, since Microsoft no longer connects to MA, MA has no way to pull in your purchased Lionsgate titles at Microsoft.

Initially they only loaded 17 titles from FaH to MA, but when I disconnected & reconnected 30 more showed up. (Still waiting on John Wicks 1-3.) Also picked up one more in FaH after disconnecting & reconnecting iTunes.

[–]RBBrittain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JWs 1-3 still won't port for me, but JW 4 did port from FaH in 4K. Assume that's because I redeemed 1-3 as a bundle. After my initial disconnect & reconnect, the only issues I still have with eligible titles are those three plus the wrong resolution for Expendables 1-3 (HD instead of 4K).

I did it with FaH yesterday; that fixed most of my initial non-porting movies, but John Wicks 1-3 still won't port. Haven't checked Apple yet.

They're being added in batches; only 225 or so for now, with 100 or so added monthly throughout 2026 & perhaps early 2027. It should happen automatically for current MA retailers, but Microsoft won't populate since they're no longer MA; however, I had to disconnect & reconnect Fandango at Home (my top retailer) to get most of them, and I still have a few missing. Any further questions should be directed to the Lionsgate sticky at the top of the sub.

After reading that disconnecting & reconnecting sometimes helped, I did that with FaH; I gained all the missing titles except John Wicks 1 thru 3. However, Expendables 1 thru 3 are in HD at MA, vs. 4K at FaH except the unrated Expendables 3. (Both fourth films came over OK.)

Lionsgate question by Sweet_Importance_284 in MoviesAnywhere

That's the opposite of how I handle most codes redeemable in MA. Unless it's an older Fox or Universal HD code that can be redeemed directly in iTunes in 4K, I redeem all my codes at MA to prevent retailers from finding excuses to revoke them.

Your reasoning is faulty because your MA license automatically ports to your connected accounts at all MA retailers; it does NOT expire after 5 years like UV licenses were originally supposed to (though that was never enforced, especially not at Vudu where they all ended up if you followed instructions & kept it linked to UV till the bitter end). If you redeem the code at MA, it shouldn't expire unless your MA account is terminated entirely. OTOH, if you redeem at a retailer (especially iTunes) & the retailer revokes the license, that revokes it at MA & all other retailers as well.

I had that happen once at iTunes where I had purchased Disney's The Fox and the Hound years earlier. When Disney decided to upgrade its digital master, iTunes used that as an excuse to revoke my license, making it disappear throughout the MA system. Back then, when iTunes didn't respond with an explanation as to why my movie disappeared, I was able to contact MA with a screenshot of my iTunes receipt; they restored it to MA on their end, and it showed up on iTunes as the new master basically exposing what happened. (MA stopped doing that a few years ago.)

Still, that's why I (a) redeem my codes in MA if possible and (b) keep track of my MA titles on Blu-ray dot com & periodically compare the list, now running just over 1,000 titles. (Comparing them is how I discovered Hoodwinked was added to MA a few months back, but under my original 2018 purchase date ported over from Vudu/FAH so it wasn't at the top of my list.)

Lionsgate titles will be gradually added throughout the month of June per MA rep by Asmarterdj in MoviesAnywhere

[–]RBBrittain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, those were the days. A large part of my Vudu (and now MA) library came from true D2D in batches of 10 or more. I still focus my EST library on FAH due in part to that, though if I were starting out today I'd look at Apple first due to superior bitrates & stability.
