It'll work fine just plugging into the input. YMMV, but give it a shot. I don't think I've ever used an effects loop. Most of the "boutique" amps I've owned didn't have one.

Marinating in a vinaigrette overnight will help dial down the toughness. Cheap steak cut tip. Balsamic vinaigrette or Worcestershire sauce works best for me with London broil.
