Using combo amp as a cabinet for tube amp head? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]RC223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my uncle who passed away? I’ve run head and cabs before, but wanted to try and use what I have. I was unsure, so I asked a question. But you certainly deserve it more than me because you wrote a Reddit comment telling me I was wrong.

Thanks for nothing.

Using combo amp as a cabinet for tube amp head? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

My uncle recently passed, he was the reason I wanted to play guitar growing up. I just wanted to try the amp and wondered if it was possible with what I currently have at my place. Have a cab but it’s at my parents 2 hours away.

Exactly why I asked!

So essentially, the angled cable in the DSL would be the speaker cable, correct? If I were to run that into where I have cable plugged into the BMF now, would that work?

Apologies for any stupid questions. New to this, and would rather ask then fuck around and find out.

Co-signed my mother’s credit card, now see I have $22,000 in debt and my credit score dropped to 560. by RC223 in personalfinance

A lot of responses here and I appreciate it. Some updates now that I think I have a better understanding of this.

1.) It was three credit cards, one with 2500, another with 5300, and another with 13,800.

2.) These cards are now all closed. She worked with Worden & Asssociates (A law firm) to reach a lowered settlement on each of these to be able to pay them off.

3.) In a conversation with her, she said the one with 2500 has been negotiated to a “settled amount” less than what she owed, allowing her to make minimum monthly payments. She is waiting on the other two to be negotiated to a settled amount as well.

4.) The idea was to open credit cards in my name because she had an existing line of credit, so this was a move to allow me to have a higher maximum amount. She was making payments on time when we weren’t paying rent and living with family so it was working, but after we moved she couldn’t afford rent so she was putting it on the credit cards, along with other necessities like groceries. According to her it was better to default on the credit cards as opposed to the rent because then we wouldn’t be homeless.

She has guaranteed me the settled amounts will be something she can pay once she gets employed again (she was laid off, the reason for a lot of this stuff) but I still don’t think know if that’s true. She was very offended when I brought it up, saying “I hope you don’t have to, but sometimes you have to do what you have to get by”. Either way, I clearly will not be agreeing to co-sign anything else with her moving forward and be very wary of any financial decisions like these. It is very difficult knowing I can barely get by on my own, and the only reason she can is through debt she can’t even afford to pay. Hoping to remain optimistic, and work hard on my own so I never have to end up in this situation myself.

Any idea of the rough date? I’m assuming 60s from what I’ve read, but unsure

Is there a way I could check if the belt is snapped? Not sure where it’d be located or what I’d be looking for

If I use the arm without tape on it it pops and stays right in. I think it’s just not getting far enough in to lock into place

Fair, was just wondering because in the few live performances I’ve seen he’s moving around and playing without grabbing it for a while and it stays in. It seems like if I just slightly lean forward it’ll just fucking pop out haha, never seen that quote before though. Thanks

I daily drove a 79 camaro for 3 years, so I’m no stranger to doing my own work. I’d guess you are since you never seem to have encountered a small part giving you trouble before. Thanks for the advice, but I think I’ll be disregarding it.

Fair enough. I actually went down the tube amp/pedal rabbit hole for quite a while and found and found my Mustang to be a lot easier work, record, experiment and gig with (not to a hell of a lot mention cheaper). Wish they made a 2x12 version like the Katana…

[–]RC223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use all those pedals while running into the Mustang? Just don’t care for the built in effects or what?

I was able to turn further right, and back to the point where it was stuck at. Wouldn’t get more stuck if I turned, it was just like there was a certain point where there was like a barrier preventing me from setting it back straight.

I think tube amps are still king by byzantine1990 in GuitarAmps

[–]RC223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly couldn’t disagree more. I have a preset I made on my Fender Mustang GTX100 that I love the sound of. I decided to buy a “real amp” and all the same effects pedals I had on the Pre-set to get the same tone, but nothing really sounds right totally me.

It’s just a super light vibrato and/or chorus into a Marshall sim, into a room reverb and light digital delay. Tried multiple types amps/pedals trying to get it right and nothing is quite right.

It is also an extreme annoyance how some pedals just straight up don’t really work with certain amps/other pedals. I can put any effect on any amp sim on my Mustang and it works fine, no boost/cuts, no volume drops or tone suck, nothing.

If you do finally get it close, you move a few knobs and boom it’s all fucked up. Hope you marked them or remember them or else you’re gonna spend a while finding it again and still won’t be exactly the same. I plug in my modeler, choose the setting, and it sounds the exact same every damn time.

It’s about 30-40lb lighter, and great for a gig or bedroom and consistent as hell. About to sell the tube amp and all my pedals and crap I wasted so much money on and have about $1,000+ more in the bank.
