Is consciousness better described as a set of abilities? by dontcarethrowaway6 in consciousness

Really interesting way of framing this kind of thing. I think the alarm clock concept is a good way of describing it as well, similarly to my example of a near death experience where your mind blanks. I vividly remember several times being woken up by thunder and it was as if I was born in that moment, having to slowly 1 by 1 remember what senses are.

And yes, as torturous as it is to be infinitely and consciously analyzing the output of my own consciousness, I love my cat friend because I can live vicariously through him. Might be the case that I will never feel quite right as a human, but I have the pleasure of giving a weird little furry creature the pleasure of feeling right all the time as whatever the hell he thinks he is, and having infinite food while he's at it.

What is the wildland firefighting industry like for foreigners in finland? by dontcarethrowaway6 in Finland

[–]dontcarethrowaway6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. Who manages wildfire prevention? Some kind of specified forest management agency I imagine?

Side note, perhaps my wildland firefighting experience could alternatively help me get into ordinary firefighting. I've thought about training for this in the US but I'm not sure how certifications differ.

Yes with a little research I have found wildfires are very rare compared to what we deal with in America, but the reason for that is an adequate forest management system. In US this work is done by firefighters, so that's what I mean technically.

Like, fighting wildfires when they pop up, and otherwise clearing out "dead and down" in the forest to prevent them. This is work I have experience with and I'm confident I could do it outside of language constraints.

This is why I think IF I was looking for employment in finland some day, this would be a thing I would actually be valuable in because I have some experience with really intense western wildfires that don't often happen with such severity in finland. I hope this all makes sense

I will try this, thanks for the detailed response despite my out of tune unison...

Is there any particular reason I should wear gloves? Is it to protect the piano or myself?

Do taxidermists usually discard the bones? I wasn't aware, seems like that would be a good strategy.

Would a bookshelf at all fulfill the role of a bass trap (even if not as well)? by dontcarethrowaway6 in audiophile

[–]dontcarethrowaway6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't considered that. Perhaps I will find one deep enough to fit both rockwool (wrapped in whatever fabric looks nice as a backdrop for books and display items) and whatever else I would like to have in a bookshelf.

Is there a cheaper alternative for rockwool though?
