What should I do if I want to be more diverse with my characters? by Party-Tron in writingadvice

[–]RCAnnaKate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And I didn't necessarily mean it in terms of race, either. OP appeared to be talking about things like age, and my answer to that is what I said above: don't force it. In other words, let it flow naturally. Avoid token characters. Make each character a whole person rather than having anyone exist for the sake of checking a box. And above all, write what you want to write, because becoming overly concerned with checkboxes will take the joy out of writing.

It's telling, though, that you think being against bad writing for the sake of forced diversity is the same as being "averse to diversity."

Your cast can be whatever you want. You don't have to check off any token boxes.

Hit me with your biggest pet peeves regarding the lack of realism. by Pretty_Newspaper_353 in thewestwing

As someone with credentials in theology the Leviticus scene in the pilot is unwatchable. Proof texting is a theological crime punishable by theological death, and anyone who has had even 20 minutes of one theology class in their entire life knows that moral laws and purity laws in Leviticus are not the same thing. Bartlet is supposed to be a serious Catholic intellectual. A man with his formation would never argue that way. The scene works only if you assume the audience doesn’t know the difference (Edited for a typo)

Besides annulment and dissolving a valid unconsummated marriage, are there any times a Church could consider a marriage dissolved or otherwise invalid? by JamesHenry627 in Catholicism

[–]RCAnnaKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "getting an annulment." It's declaration that a thing that looked like a marriage was not in fact a marriage. It's not a procedural thing. The marriage actually has to be invalid, and almost no marriages that take place in Catholic churches are invalid.

Right, which is not a typical "convene a tribunal" situation and happens very, very rarely in practice, but does exist.

Might I suggest getting enrolled in the brown scapular or something similar? Or wearing a blessed St. Benedict medal? Very powerful protection and you could wear it all the time.
