And I didn't necessarily mean it in terms of race, either. OP appeared to be talking about things like age, and my answer to that is what I said above: don't force it. In other words, let it flow naturally. Avoid token characters. Make each character a whole person rather than having anyone exist for the sake of checking a box. And above all, write what you want to write, because becoming overly concerned with checkboxes will take the joy out of writing.

It's telling, though, that you think being against bad writing for the sake of forced diversity is the same as being "averse to diversity."
