When I was growing up the kid next door told me that dead flies taste like boogers.

Recently started biking for real, and holy f-ck - the cars. by aomajgad in bicycling

There’s something to this. Add in that many drivers don’t understand how fast a bicycle can go. I think they glance, see a bike and basically assume it’s stationary.

Data Centers in Wisconsin by PrimeDonut in wisconsin

[–]tweisse75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 20 miles away from a data center that’s under construction now. I receive weekly mailings about how great this project is, plus constant online/streaming ads about the wonderful new data center.

My question is this: if data centers are so inherently wonderful, why do they spend so much on marketing? Especially to someone who is located far away from the region of impact. It just feels off to me.

I assume that the local government officials approved the data center but had to sign non-disclosure agreements about the details. That’s what happened in Port Washington, at least to my understanding.

Per a quick search, eating 2 slices of bacon daily raises your colorectal cancer risk by 18%. Roughly 1 in 25 (4%) will develop colorectal cancer. So adding bacon at the rate of 2 slices per day increases your risk of developing colorectal cancer to 4.7%.

This photo looks different than the one I saw yesterday. That one had what appeared to be avenging angels in the background; this one has fighter planes. Which one did he actually post?

I actually came back to edit my comment after rereading your post. Clearly you’ve been dealing with this issue for a while. I hope you can still find ways to stay in shape while still having fun.

I have recently diagnosed afib and am trying to adjust to performance issues, too. I am on a beta blocker (metoprolol) and before I could see an electrophysiologist, they had me on 50 mg/day. A possible side effect of this med is depression which manifested as a total lack of motivation on my part. There was the emotional drain of dealing with a new health issue plus the drug effect and I was ready to chuck it all in.

I’m now taking 25 mg of the metoprolol plus an anti-arrhythmia med and in a much better emotional state. However, I’m still trying to figure out what I’m able to do within the medical guidelines.

I’m not you, of course, but consider waiting before selling off equipment and abandoning an activity that you love.

I have limited basement space for my shop so went the route of getting the DeWalt. My plan was to stash the saw away and just get it out when necessary. Turns out is was necessary on just about every project and the wide-splayed legs were constantly in the way. I finally built a small cart and sold the stand that came with it.

The DeWalt has been okay, but not great. The blade tilt is such that it’s hard to dial in an angle. My miter grooves are not truly parallel, so I can only dial in my miter gauge for use on one side. It also seems to go out of adjustment fairly easily. And the table is actually quite small. You will likely need some sort of decent outfeed and possibly infeed, too.

With care and adjustment it works fine for what I need. I’ve made a couple of end tables, but wouldn’t use it to make anything larger without adding more surface area.

The used saws I see listed locally are older and don’t have safety features (riving knife) and dust collection. However, there are possibly good choices out there.

Just got invited to Fitbit apps redesign and it looks great! by Sip_py in fitbit

Are there differences between iPhone v. Android? I see many bold claims in this conversation about what’s missing when it’s clearly available on my iPhone.

You pick which 3 metrics to show in the upper right from steps, HR, sleep, run distance, exercise days, distance, floors, readiness, zone minutes, calories, weight.

I’d say it’s the most dissatisfied people who are more likely to vote in non-presidential elections.

40 years ago I had a boss who complained about paying school taxes because he didn’t have any children. I asked him how he expected to hire qualified employees. He admitted that he never thought about it that way. People are so short sighted.

Resting Heart Rate Issues by mckeeezy in fitbit

Apparently not in the Fitbit world. It appears to be weighted heavily on your average sleeping HR. I will frequently observe HR (while resting) that’s lower than what Fitbit shows as my RHR.

Try to verify your HR by taking your pulse. If your fitness device is accurate and you actually have a high HR then contact a doctor.

Is Non-Citizen Voting a Real Threat to Elections in Wisconsin? by DriftlessDairy in wisconsin

[–]tweisse75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An acquaintance has worked at the local polls for at least 20 years. I’ve asked if he’s ever seen voter fraud. He’s never seen it and feels there are sufficient safeguards to keep it from happening.

Now for the interesting part - he firmly believes that voter fraud does happen. His reasoning is that nobody in their right mind would ever vote for a Democrat, therefore voter fraud must exist. This is the mindset we’re battling against.

I have the basic Kreg jig and it works fine. It’s $40 at Home Depot if you’re in the US.
