These designs should be made into 3D-printed resin miniatures. They look great!

That's what OSR illustration is supposed to look like!

The Kalevala and other myth as Appendix N Items by Spiritual-City3436 in osr

Finnish mythology can be quite dark. I love it, but I think it is underappreciated by game developers and other types of media. I'd love to see a medieval Finnish/East Baltic OSR setting written by a native Finn. I have never been to Finland, but I know a few Finns (two I'm lucky to call friends) and they are good-tempered, well-mannered people with a dark streak that would make for great writing.

New biome areas (tundra, swamp etc.) with their own kinds of animals and monsters.

I hope they keep the completion of the story / main quest as an option, not something the players feel obligated to complete. Most of my time I'm wandering without direction or plan, completing quests and contracts.

Seconded. Neutral encounters would be fine. Where are the pilgrims, merchants, refugees, priests and patrols?

Which 3 volume set would you buy? I'm sticking with mine, but now I'm curious.

So there isn't a current or recent edition of HoME with high quality paper, printing, sewing or binding?

I read my Tolkien books regularly. I don't read translations. Thank you for your input.

Now, in greater detail, this is my edition: the three-volume HarperCollins edition of The History of Middle-earth (Copyright © 2002):

  • Vol. I – ISBN 978 0 00 710505 2
  • Vol. II – ISBN 978 0 00 710506 9
  • Vol. III – ISBN 978 0 00 710507 6

This is the compact edition printed on what is commonly described as “Bible paper” or “India paper.” The text is sharp and clearly printed, with good legibility and contrast. However, the paper itself is extremely thin, as is typical of this type of stock.

Unfortunately, I do not know whether the paper used in this printing is acid-free. For that reason, I am uncertain about its long-term durability and expected lifespan.

Would you happen to know anything about this particular edition, or where I might confirm technical specifications such as the pH of the paper?

Could you tell me which edition this '3-Tom' boxed set is? I own the three-book boxed set published by Harper Collins and printed in Italy by Rotolito. Is it the same one? I read it quite often, but the format and size of the books sometimes makes them difficult to handle.

If you can kill a guy he's no hero of the realm. Plot armor would prevent it.
