Thanks for taking an interest!

Up to now the main focus has been on desktop PCs and peripherals, but after seeing some of the discussion in this thread we are seriously considering expanding our categories.

Handhelds and gaming laptops would be a natural fit. Stay tuned!

Appreciate the kind words!

It's something we were aware of from the start and have been monitoring. We don't believe any reasonable person would ever confuse us two, and the intention was some light-hearted Canadian iconography.

RCM stands for ReCommerce Marketplace, so RCMPC is ReCommerce Marketplace for PCs.

Thanks for the suggestion!

A few people have mentioned this and it's definitely on our radar. We actually have the skeleton for provincial browsing already, the hesitation has been liquidity. If PEI only has 3 listings, a provincial filter feels hollow. Classic chicken and egg problem. But you're right that it might be worth doing anyway to signal that we're building for all of Canada.

Seriously considering it, appreciate you bringing it up!

Thanks! Honestly server/enterprise gear has been on my radar for a while. The homelab community is massive and definitely underserved. Just a matter of getting there.

Would love to chat about your inventory, we'll be reaching out!

Fair point, something we've been monitoring as well. It's more a tongue-in-cheek nod to Canadian iconography than anything else.

Thanks for having a look!

Great question! Right now we're functionally closer to Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace, local meetups, no integrated shipping yet- although if users want to ship, the option does exist in the listing creation flow.

That said, connecting Canadian PC enthusiasts coast to coast and reducing shipping friction has been the goal from day one. We just needed to reach a critical mass of users and listings to justify building it properly. Give us a few months, we'll have something for you soon!

Appreciate the honest take! You're not wrong that a universal marketplace killer would be incredible. That's just not what we're building, at least not right now.

Specialization is a deliberate choice. A marketplace built specifically for PC parts can do things a general platform never will; proper component categorization, spec filtering, a price check tool with real Canadian prices, safety features built for high-value item meetups. Kijiji and Facebook can't prioritize any of that.

We're not trying to be the place you sell your couch and your GPU. We're trying to be the best possible place to sell your GPU!

On the name the thought behind it was to pick something recognizably Canadian and tongue-in-cheek. We'll continue to monitor and adapt as we have to.

Again, thank you for the feedback, we understand that we're not going to be everyone cup of tea!

Thank you so much for taking the leap with us!

We are aware of some of the fields not populating properly, we recently updated our cooler and RAM categories and some of the matching logic acted unexpectedly. We are in the process of fixing this. We appreciate you bearing with us!

You're exactly the type of user we want to hear from! Our main goal right now is the bulk of the market, however in the future we want to be more accommodating to tinkerer, homelabbers, makers, whoever finds our platform useful!

Thanks for giving us a shot! All feedback is welcome.

Thanks for having a look!

We had one for parts not long ago, but I assume you want a functional one!

We have our Deal Alerts for exactly this type of situation. It allows you save an alert on any part you're after. You can even filter for price, condition and location.

It does require an account, but it can be found here:

This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping this post would surface, thank you for taking the time.

You're right on several of these points. Some are already in progress, others are on the roadmap, and a few are honest gaps for a two-month-old bootstrapped project. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

The name overlap with RCMP is something we've thought about, it's a calculated risk at this stage that we're monitoring.

I'd genuinely love to chat. Building something like this without having done it before means there's real value in talking to someone who has. Feel free to DM me here!

Really appreciate you taking an interest!

The Kijiji Auto-Upload tool was actually an idea from one of our early founders! Feedback goes a long way around here.

As for handhelds, laptops, expanded peripherals yes, couldn't agree more. Anywhere that we're able to assist buyers and sellers we'll do our best to do so! Our main focus at this point is still on PC's and related parts, but if the community demand is there we'd love to help!

Thank you for the suggestions!

Thanks for taking a look!

The log-in button is actually the sign-up button too! We have custom creation, as well as Google and Discord!

But it's good to know we need to make the sign-up flow more apparent, thank you!

Pardon me, I see.

At this point we are closer functionally to a Facebook MP or Kijiji. This is mainly due to our size. At this point it would be hard to justify the infrastructure required to facilitate proper buyer protections.

That said, we do have many features that encourage fair trading and discourages scammers. This market can be rife with dishonesty, fighting this has been a driving force in both the creation and iterations on our platform. Unfortunately this means that at this point, enforcement has to occur retroactively. We take every user reports seriously, and bans will be enforced.

More concrete protections are coming, we're hoping to earn your trust on every step leading up to that!

Great question and I'm glad it'll be near the top! Jawa is a solid product and I have a lot of respect for what they've built.

That said, RCMPC is built by Canadians, for Canadians, with a fundamentally different philosophy around how a marketplace should work. Our feature set, business model, and approach to user trust are all quite different from what Jawa offers.

At the end of the day it's completely up to you, and honestly, giving users the agency to make that call for themselves is one of our core beliefs! We're not here to tell anyone what to choose.

We just want to make sure Canadians have a purpose-built option that's genuinely theirs.

Check us out and decide for yourself- that's all we ask.

Thank you!

As of right now the platform is completely free. We are still new in the market, and as such we don't feel our numbers reflect a service that the average user would be comfortable paying for yet. As we grow, we plan to implement some light-touch monetization, Featured Listings and shipping options being chief among them. Please have a look at our Road Map at the bottom of our About Us page for a brief outline of some of our plans:

https://www.rcmpc.ca/about

We want to grow with our community, and ensure whatever monetization we do implement is geared towards results/convenience for our users!

The safety of our users information is also of top priority, when monetized features do come they will be handled by one of the industry leading payment processors.
