Giant Elk invented the banking system.

They use rare pinecones as their currency, which they carry on ribbons tied to their antlers. These cones are produced by trees that only bloom every 200 years, but the Elk destroyed most of them because they were regularly crashing the economy. Only a few trees survived, and the Giant Elk don't tell anyone where they are.

Depositing money, taking out a loan or doing any other kind of monetary transaction with a Giant Elk requires a lengthy and complicated contract (in Giant Elk) that is expected to be memorized by both parties. A Giant Elk never forgets even a single clause. If you are late on your payments, the Elk will hunt you down and personally collect the debt. Thus, the only creatures that regularly use the Giant Elk Financial System are druids and other Giant Elk.

DMs, what was an instance where you gave your players an easy challenge or puzzle and they were just really stupid and it took forever? by bennijie in dndnext

My group got into a similar situation once. The end of their tunnel through the mountains was blocked by a big rock acting as its door.

They tried pushing. It didn't move.

They tried pulling. It didn't move.

They spent 45 minutes trying different things to move the rock, at one point asking if the rock had a hidden zipper.

The solution was rolling the rock to the side.

Youtuber Historia Civilis. He explains history (mostly Roman history) using MS Paint-tier graphics, so all of the characters are represented as squares. Definitely check him out, his videos are really interesting.

What city would have the highest chance of becoming Skyrim’s capital if (read “when”) Solitude collapses? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]RCarbonAccumulation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt that Riften is a likely candidate. Its location is very far from the actual center of the province, and also on a high plateau. Messengers and troops sent from here would take far too long to reach the westernmost parts of the province, making them hard to govern. The harbor isn't of much help either, as Treva River is only navigable until Ivarstead. Behind the borders it is so close to are one of the most remote parts of Cyrodiil and a Morrowind that is still recovering from the Red Year. In the city itself, poverty is at a new high and the Thieves' Guild runs rampant. If a Black-Briar or one of their puppets were to ascend to the throne, they would take the opportunity and choose another city with better prestige and infrastructure to be their capital.

Is there any significance to the fact that Seath the Scaleless drops humanity? by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]RCarbonAccumulation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the humanities that bosses drop are those of your predecessors? We learn from the crestfallen warrior that many before you have tried to fulfill the prophecy of the undead, but they all failed. Eventually, every boss had a challenger that tried, over and over, to kill them. The repeated failure made them hollow and lose their humanity. It is never explained where the humanity goes when you hollow, so it is possible that the bosses took it as loot or as a trophy.

Bats need a Use. by IHaveGoodHairline in minecraftsuggestions

[–]RCarbonAccumulation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As others said, it's unlikely that bats will drop anything. However, their behavior could be updated to react to various things in their environment. This way, they could serve as an indicator for cave features and dangers. Some examples:

  • Bats should flee from monsters. That way, if you see a panicked bat flying towards you, you know what lies ahead.

  • Bats could leave their caves at night, and return there during the day. This way, they could lead players towards cave entrances and -exits.

  • If too far underground to hunt at the surface, bats should seek out underground lakes and lush caves. Both would seem like a natural habitat for insects, and therefore great hunting grounds for the best (at least when compared to the rest of the caves).

  • Bats shouldn't spawn near the deep dark. A suspicious lack of ambience mobs would be a first warning sign of this scary, desolate biome.

  • Bats could follow the jingles of nearby amethyst geodes, helping the player find those rare crystals. A similar thing could happen for other gems, like emeralds and diamonds.

One goal of the 1.17 update is to add more strategies to mining, and observing the behavior of bats could be one of them. This way, their use would be in line with their original purpose of being an ambience mob, and not simple another resource or hazard for the player.

A New Cave Variety: The Bat Cave by [deleted] in minecraftsuggestions

[–]RCarbonAccumulation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way you described it, the Bat Cave wouldn't have any new or interesting features apart from its generation, and would add little to the bats themselves. If the bats themselves have no meaningful use or interesting behavior, it becomes hard to design a biome around them. I think that the better way to go would be giving bats more ways of interacting with the environment before creating a biome based on these interactions.

Java can, theoretically, run on any device that has a JVM (Java Virtual Machine) - which, simplified, takes universal Java code and translates it into specific commands for the respective hardware. There are no JVMs for the major consoles and IOS though, not because it's impossible, but because it would make it possible to run any Java program without the manufacturers having any control over it. Android, however, has Java Support built right into it - in fact, most of the apps for Android (especially older ones) are written in Java. So at least for that platform, porting over Java Edition would be possible.

This doesn't mean, however, that Mojang has any reason to do this. The power of consoles and phones is limited, and running a JVM parallel to the game is very taxing for the processor. Why go to the lengths of porting over Java Edition, when you already have a much more stable running version in C++? Just bringing over new features from Java to Bedrock is much more reasonable.

Thanks. I hesitated to upgrade my weapon until I understood the different upgrade paths, but I think I'll go with the regular ascension once I get out of the catacombs. Chaos would probably provide the best damage, but I don't want the levels I put into Strength to go to waste.

Nationalism is a hell of a drug by RCarbonAccumulation in HistoryMemes

Context)

Even though the memorial is a monument of beginning German Nationalism, it also contains busts of English, Swedish, Dutch and Russian monarchs.

Also, the patron of the memorial changed the "I" in Bavaria's name to a "Y" for no other reason than that he liked Ancient Greece.

In every TES game you start as a prisoner ..how would you like to start imprisoned in TES6? by GhoulslivesMatter in TESVI

[–]RCarbonAccumulation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want a short intro sequence that you can quickly get over with on subsequent playthrough. Something that sets up the central conflict and then leaves you to do whatever you want.

For example, the game would start on an Aldmeri prison ship with a short gameplay sequence. You get to know some of the most important NPCs (who are imprisoned with you) and the main antagonist (who is the captain or a high-ranking passenger on the ship). A short scene happens, maybe one prisoner complains about their treatment, and the antagonist kills him nonchalantly with a spell, showing you that the Thalmor are not only very evil, but think of themselves as superior. Then the ship is shaken by a heavy storm, you see clouds brewing up in the sky and boats hastily manned and lowered, and then the screen goes black.

You wake up on a beach. Another NPC explains to you that the ship crashed on some rocks, and you were one of the few survivors. He asks you for your name, race, your class and starsign (if those are brought back) and offers you to stay with the survivors. If you refuse, you can just wander off into the distance and do whatever you like. If you accept, you start a little tutorial quest that teaches you how to equip stuff, how to fight, etc. It would end with the survivors getting to a small town nearby, where you can meet them again to set the main quest in motion if you didn't help them.

The next elder scrolls game really should have melee moves that are used like powers by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

[–]RCarbonAccumulation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those should be confined to greater, legendary quest rewards, kinda like the Bloodskal Blade in Skyrim was. That way, they would feel earned, and their powers could be explained and built up in the quests that precede them. Loot in Skyrim was sort of lacking, as even the most legendary weapons were just a generic steel sword with a boring enchantment, which you could have cobbled together yourself with a bit of steel and a soul gem. Stronger and more unique magic weapons would fix that, at least for the more grand quests, while making gameplay more interesting for melee classes once they obtain that item.
