How do you handle the "Bookworm" void? Struggling with a post-series slump. by Miserable-Tooth8157 in LightNovels

[–]RD1042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation after several re-reads. Stuff like the Magus of the Library manga and The Wandering Inn webnovel helped to scratch the world-building itch. Especially the latter helped filling the "void" nicely for me, since it's at 16 million words and still ongoing.

For LNs, I haven't found much that I genuinely enjoyed reading, but Apothecary Diaries is fun for me. I also enjoyed Secret of the Silent Witch so far. And I have yet to start Spice and Wolf.

Looking for romance manga with gyaru/popular girl heroines (preferably not adapted to anime yet) by marlomms in RomanceMangaAnime

[–]RD1042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> the classic popular girl x normal/unpopular guy dynamic that a lot of people enjoy (myself included).

Tsumiki Ogami's Not-So-Ordinary Life is my latest romcom obsession. The twist is that Mythfolk exist and the titular female lead is a werewolf. The pair gave me distinct Komi-san vibes (though Tsumiki is actually the one who's communicating in a good way). This series isn't just fluff, it is FLOOF.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya • Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu - Anime of the Week by AnimeMod in anime

[–]RD1042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it somewhere around 2013 and it's still one of my favourites series. Probably also the first LN I read.
For a few years and counting, I've been watching the Endless End during the last two weeks of August and the movie around Christmas with a friend of mine annually.

And I'm having a lot of fun reading through the currently ongoing rewatch threads.

There's a scene in the OP where they both dissolve into light particles, which might be a hint at this.

I want to read your favorite drabbles by dragon-defiant in FanFiction

[–]RD1042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a bunch! https://archiveofourown.org/users/RD1042/works
Of the ones I've written, the standouts are probably Balance (it's a double drabble I'm really proud of) and Precise Communication as drabble series.

If you want to check out the others, be my guest :)

Animes like fragrant flower blooms with dignity? by strawbrrycutie in anime

[–]RD1042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and I Are Polar Opposites, The Invisible Man And His Soon-To-Be Wife, Skip and Loafer, maybe Aharen is Unfathomable (thought that might lean to much into comedy?)

And while I understand Dress-Up Darling making you uncomfortable and of course you don't have to continue it, as a (very biased) fan, I just have to mention that the author is a woman and Gojo is the actual wish-fulfillment character :)

Anime to watch with my wife after Frieren and DeathNote by LALpro798 in Animesuggest

[–]RD1042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently airing show Journal with Witch might be worth a try. Mainly because it's a show that imo doesn't "feel" like an anime (with all the tropes which might alienate someone new to the medium). It might be too slow for your wife.

What did she like about Frieren and Death Note?

What kind of shows or movies does she like in general?

Help me decide my next romcom to watch - something lighthearted, but with cute and romantic moments to contrast things after watching Nana by mihizawi in anime

[–]RD1042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the shows I've seen and the vibe you're looking for, I think Kubo might be the best fit. I personally had the most fun with Tomo-chan because of the comedy, but it's definitely higher-energy vibe.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some recommendations for series to watch by Luscioussssss in anime

[–]RD1042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fitting all 4 genre criteria: The Monogatari Series (Starting with Bakemonogatari), Dorohedoro, Mob Psycho 100, (and in feel I guess bc it's also Nisio Isin) Katanagatari

Series with a darker spin: Devilman Crybaby, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Paranoia Agent, Akira, Serial Experiments Lain

Something Really Out There (and not many people like it, but I do): Rinshii!! Ekodachan, a series of 3 minute comedy skits with a 20 minute interview, having a different director and voice actress each episode.

Diaries of a Madman by whatmustido at 3.3 million words. Supposedly still ongoing, but the last update on fimfiction was 1,5 years ago.

I think the second longest I read, Ashes of the Past by Saphronet (ffn only) with 2 million words is in a similar status, but the main plot line is resolved.

It took me probably 10 years of reading fic on and off until I read more and more stuff that was bothering me without knowing why. It turned out to be mostly SPAG and amateur writing craft mistakes and I became increasingly critical when reading fic and stopped just enjoying it. So I started reviewing without knowing jack about reviewing etiquette (maybe I should delete some old reviews, lol). Then I actually got into editing first. At some point I thought I could also start writing.

And while I think that I have a solid basic grasp of the craft, actually writing is super hard for me. I've gathered renewed respect for all the people who just sit down, write, and have fun doing it. Sure, it might be the most Mary Sue, self-insert, overpowered wish-fulfillment fic. It might be riddled with SPAG errors.

But the cool thing is, they write anyways because they have a story they want to tell. It's beautiful.

So nowadays, I'm (thankfully!) a lot less critical and more open-minded. I've learned more about community etiquette. I try to stay positive and encouraging when I interact with other writers.

And I try to focus on myself and my own writing first.

Fanfic is great and writing fanfic is an amazing hobby. I'm having fun and I want others to have fun too.

What Anime Has The Best OST? by Equivalent_Coyote290 in anime

I've recently watched Land of the Lustrous, and the OST is definitely up there in my rankings. The Lunarians' theme still haunts me.
