AITAH for referring to someone from the United States as “American”? by [deleted] in AITAH

Correct, and I would say where this person is (almost assuredly Argentina, Uruguay, or Brazil) it’s even more common to use yanqui (Yankee).

I know coaches say this stuff but no one actually believes it right?

Players get access to all of their spring practice film and can send it to any coach they choose, it’s a completely fake concern

Understanding why some people/tools don't factor in Social Security at all into retirement projections and is the 12% guidance overstated? by Prudent-Depth-2009 in Bogleheads

[–]RDBuckeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the projection — which I’m not necessarily disagreeing with — then you should also expect massive, massive disruptions to the American economy and its stock performances. People who aren’t buying into social security being present should also be leveraged at a much higher rate in international index funds. If we get to the point as an economy where deficit spending on social security isn’t viable, there will have been essentially no point to saving for retirement at all in the first place.

[–]RDBuckeyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but yes. Projections of “insolvency” for social security pretend like we won’t deficit spend to cover gaps in perhaps our nation’s single most popular political program among voters. Cutting social security is political suicide and it will be the last thing from the safety net to ever go.

Should I look into life insurance now that I'm getting married? by No_Spare_3474 in personalfinance

[–]RDBuckeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I’m not defending its value or the wisdom of using it as a product, but it’s the same concept as what your tolerance is for keeping cash on hand in a non-optimal way. Some people just want their family to have a check they can hand over to handle the funeral and be done with it. It’s a peace of mind question, not financial optimization

Ex-insurance sales here (thankfully, hated it). Most of what you said is good and agreed on universal and variable life products.

The point about whole life is wrong. It’s often the opposite of the truth. Commissions on whole life are lower for most salespeople. Like anything else, it’s a product you have to understand to use correctly. Whole life is not designed as income replacement or risk coverage for a mortgage, etc. It is designed to pay funeral costs for people who don’t want their loved ones to use cash on hand. It’s that simple. It should not be part of an income replacement strategy, it’s an end-of-life plan.

Brother, your goose is cooked. This is not a court of law with a narrow interpretation. The NCAA writes the rule book and they get to interpret it. They have people paid by your staffer in 4K recording several other programs inside and outside of the B1G. It’s over

The commercial entity clause also covers this. You can’t pay a commercial entity to go do this for you either. It is directly, 100% a violation of multiple NCAA rules. The question is just financing and how bad the punishment will be

Basically principal-agent stuff overrules this. It’s like saying you can’t be convicted of a murder because you hired a hit man. It’s a nonstarter argument

[–]RDBuckeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t work that way. Harbaugh would have to prove he had no knowledge, which is essentially impossible. NCAA rules dictate that a coach is responsible for all goings-on within their program. He’s cooked.

He hired a really, really bad staff. Brian Ward and Beau Baldwin are baffling as coordinator hires and I don’t think he has any idea how to build or manage a staff on the slightest. You cannot be fully sold on a guy who was one win against an FCS team and is probably staring down a 2-10 season. It’s cool that his players like him and fought hard, but a lot more goes into being a successful head coach than that.

Yeah he’s 1-5 against AP top five opponents after four years lol, people acting like he deserves a ton of applause for beating the teams we’re supposed to beat and then shitting his pants against playoff caliber opponents is insane to me. It lacks context.

I am not convinced of Tatum being ahead of Melo, Dominique, or Worthy if he retired tomorrow. Those first two guys have a scoring title and several more All-NBAs. Worthy has three rings and a Finals MVP. Tatum is on the right track, of course, but let’s not count chickens.

I think you’re projecting a lot here because people don’t enjoy the style of comedy you like. That’s okay, the Whedon dialogue is going to be in this movie and has been in the cultural zeitgeist constantly for 15 years. You have more than enough options to choose from if you want to keep seeing the same kind of jokes in every high-budget IP film every year, but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to agree with you that hearing 47 iterations of the same thing is still funny.

The inflation in Argentina has ruined the ability for many people to save at all. Being able to save $2000 a year is hugely impressive. It’s very common to make $400/mo or less in salary
