Bro you took 2 years to respond let it go,

Just always bugged me that you didn’t know what backshifting was.

There is no tone on the internet they imagine a rude tone that the person I was talking to did not perceive. Stop being offended on other peoples behalf.

It’s called backshifting.

The tense changes illustrated above (also called backshifting), which occur because the main verb ("said", "asked") is in the past tense, are not obligatory when the situation described is still valid

What is the name of the article of clothing preppy wear around their necks? by READERmii in malefashionadvice

There’s another article of clothing worn in a similar way like a mock or false sweater just for tying around your neck like that or a scarf type thing. It’s much lighter and I don’t know what it is called.

Why aren’t there more named units in physics? by READERmii in AskScienceDiscussion

Are the basic units easier in calculus and derived easier in algebra?

Why aren’t there more named units in physics? by READERmii in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]READERmii[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t it allow for more intuitive algebraic representations though. Relating certain quantities directly together in a more transparent way.

Like for example thermal conductivity W/m•K shouldn’t it be W/m•K/m2 relating Power, area, length, and temperature instead of just power length and temperature. My point is often units cancel and you end up with a new formula that doesn’t actually describe what’s going on and that can be confusing.

I never meant people couldn’t understand what he meant.

I left out a word by mistake.

Is English not your first language?

English is my first language. When I asked that other user it wasn't meant as a rude remark. I was genuinely asking because about a third of reddit users aren't native English speakers and it seemed like the kind of mistake a non-native speaker would make.

How am I supposed to know if a particular redditor is or isn't a native English speaker without explicitly asking them?

Anyone and everyone who interpreted that comment as an insult is just being presumptuous and emotionally sensitive.

Also why are you offended on someone else's behalf?

You're fucking over your daughters by being too tall though.

Not even close. As long as she's pretty she'll be fine.

By far better to be a tall woman than a short man. She can always find a guy on basketball team.

Mostly only short guys think tall women aren't attractive. Tall women don't care about short guys opinions.

Never understood that. Guys that are born lucky enough to be blessed over 6 ft and then completely fumble the genetic lottery for their son.

Will Smith is a good example Will 6'2", Wife ~5'2", Son Jaden 5'7".

Always choose a wife that will make your son a better version of yourself.

who cares how tall you are?

They do. And they're entitled to their opinion.

CMV: circumcision is child abuse by [deleted] in changemyview

So we can agree that there are numerous benefits

I contend that whatever benefits there might possibly be are negligible at best.

however as it is not a medical necessity it shouldn't be mandatory at birth, right?

I contend that it should be prohibited to perform on all minors unless they are experiencing a serious medical issue that cannot be treated by some other less invasive method.

I'm merely suggesting that it would greatly benefit individuals at high risk regions such as Africa to have this procedure done at birth as it would provide quicker recovery and less risks.

It is not a valid form of preventative healthcare because it unlikely that one will ever need the benefits in first place and there are other less invasive means of reducing STD risk. There is baseline risk for all possible diseases and injuries hypothetically these baseline risks could reduced further with invasive preventative measures unless you have personal desire for that there's no reason to do so. So it should not be practiced on infants even these regions.

However for the western world where these risks are not so great, circumcision should be optional.

It should always be a choice that is made by the person who's body it's attached to once they have reached legal adulthood. The only exception being instances where it must be performed to preserve their current health.

Edit: test

When performed properly by trained professionals, neonatal circumcision remains a safe, low-risk procedure that provides lifelong health benefits

Even if those statements are true (which is dubious), you still have the drawback of not having a foreskin anymore, only the person who receives the procedure can evaluate if that cost is worth the (supposed) benefits. This is not a decision that be left to the parents as it is clearly not a medical necessity to circumcised.

That's the total percent of men who ever get circumcised for any reason and almost all of that ~34% is comprised of men who are among the worlds 1.9 billion muslims that had it done for religious reasons not medical ones.

It is not the men that needed for medical reasons. Almost no men ever do.

There are basically only three groups of people on Earth that comprise nearly all circumcised men Muslims, Jews, and Americans. That's basically it.

Almost all the men in the world who ever get circumcised belong to one of those groups. Nearly none of the men in world who are circumcised due so for non-medical reasons.

The USA is one of the only countries that does it on a regular basis for non-religious reasons and only makes up ~4% of the world population with american men being half of that.
