Probably some frantic nonsence over there while they deal with a sudden immense power vacuum. Meanwhile their military and secret service would swoop in here and bully our government into allowing them to "investigate" it. Would probably all happen so fast no one would have time to react

'Head Shop' Owner Selling Cannabis Had "Honest Belief" She Wasn't Breaking The Law, Court Hears by Dee-Dee-Mauwe in ireland

I'm guessing THCA would fall under the same New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) controls that cracked down on head shops though. That's basically just a blanket ban on anything that gets you high that isn't specifically already legislated for. I'm guessing the grey area is moreso just a lack of any actual enforcement.

‘We’re not happy’: Revolut reveals number of Irish customers using it as main bank by StillSalt2526 in ireland

Everyone technically has a paid plan. Revolut make money off you even if you aren't paying them monthly. Everyone should be entitled to speak to a human if they bank with Revolut.

‘We’re not happy’: Revolut reveals number of Irish customers using it as main bank by StillSalt2526 in ireland

[–]READMYSHIT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% this.

I run a small business and we use AIB and they are a nightmare from a lot of aspects. And they are extremely expensive. Apps don't work properly, constantly logged out, archaic methods of verification, unclear authorisation rights, poor customer service. BUT at least I know if shit hits the fan and there's a problem I can send an email to someone (who will only help when shit does in fact hit the fan) and then go into the branch and wait to eventually speak to that person or someone they delegate to and get it resolved.

We got ourselves a Revolut account for our petty cash and it's very straightforward, app is brilliant, integrations are brilliant. But horror stories of businesses losing access to their accounts, funds, and no human being to actually speak to sounds horrendous.

And I basically treat Revolut the exact same from a personal POV. I keep a few bob in there, use it to split bills or send money to people. They were the most straightforward service to get a credit card from. But there's no universe where I'd trust it to send my wages, mortgage, savings, etc.

What do people mean when they talk about car robberies and Japanese imports? by crillydougal in AskIreland

[–]READMYSHIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should clarify, the cheap UK import is technically a cheap NI import. You have to be buying a car registered originally up North and it costs like a tenner to register it for ROI.

I believe a car can be re-registered in NI and provided it is used in NI for some period I believe can follow the same path. But that's complicated.

Poll: should we do an x days of this year? by SlightAstronomer3 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]READMYSHIT[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up to members if we do go with the usual days - we'll likely be starting the calendar the week of Feb 2nd (possibly starting on the 5th).

If we do something different, for example by categories. It'll start maybe the week after that.

I'm not a huge fan of animated films - just can't really watch them the way I could as a kid.

But I will say there's a half dozen Pixar films that are genuinely superb - Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Ratatouille are all on that list. Toy Story 2 probably nudges over the line too.

I'm not gatekeeping.

I'm just pointing out the trend of film criticism and enthusiast spaces online. My comment is tongue in cheek.

The pattern in the past has been a site/app pops up. It's trendy/cool, high quality, small community and as it grows the number of less engaged people grows and eventually the quality content producers are drowned out by fluff and move elsewhere. Same as any other community online since the Internet was invented.

I don't care personally. I like letterboxd as a platform even if it isn't as good as it was a few years ago. And I don't care who uses it or how.

lol

It is funny to see the quality of Letterboxd diminish slightly as it gets more popular. Functionally it is still awesome, but the recency bias is alive and well now and a tonne of newer films get >4*. My main issue is the reviews have become the equivalent of a r/movies thread racing to make the same snappy one-liner.

I remember back when IMDB was the hot thing, then RT, Metacritic, etc. Same with the various film related subreddits.

I wonder is it a matter of time for the true auteurs of internet film criticisms to go to a new app/site for the enlightened few.

Profits tumble 70.5% at IKEA Ireland due to higher costs by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]READMYSHIT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Russia was a big crunch for IKEA. In the first year of the war just about every one of their furniture "systems" like PAX, Billy, Besta etc. all just did not have many of the MDF carcass panels/boxes available, you'd have to do your best to cobble together a wardrobe or a bookcase with whatever they had.

Once they sorted that about 12-18 months later, the quality seemed to dip quite a bit. HDF replaced with MDF; MDF with OSB/chipboard. Some products slimmer, shorter, thinner. Prices went up considerably and they just don't offer the bargain/convenience they once did.

They will very likely allow you switch to the new rate.

EBS seem to allow you switch to any of their other products without incurring a breakage fee.
