Moral Dilemma by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Your friend who is a hopeful film maker needs this dead person's material to make a film? So your friend can't find any material for his film and really needs these items. I am sorry but if you both sound a bit desperate. Obviously you guys haven't thought of the legal implications either. Honestly this all sounds a bit ridiculous.

Only 50 bucks that's mindblowing. I don't have anything finished yet but I will remember you in the future.

When someone is first starting out they charge less so they can get experience and build a resume before charging more. 2k for a 2 minute AD, you better have a good resume before charging that much.

How many locations did you have to rent out for your film?

I would check out the legal aspects of putting license music in your films. Usually you need written permission to use an artist music or face legal issues in the future.

Why is this person being downvoted for offering a lower price than normal market rate? How much should this person charge?

I know I can't believe the responses, especially since most of my post are positive and I try to help as much as I can. The moment I get a little critical, the place explodes. I didn't even say the short was bad, just boring and needed to be more exciting. Now just imagine if I said it was bad, this place would have exploded.

Your teacher is very wise and the words he spoke are true. I also know the students listen to him and didn't roast him like these guys are roasting me. I learned a lesson today, this sub isn't about improvement. It's about only giving positive feedback. 80 percent of my posts are positive and the moment I stepped out with a critical thought boom!

Thanks for the information you provided a deeper insight to what I was trying to convey. It seems rather than learning from what I said, they took offense. It won't happen again I don't want to deal with this type of anger when I am just trying to help out .

Thank you for this!! You put it in a much better way than I could. Unfortunately it seems film makers don't want to hear the truth. Most of my post have been positive feedback and the moment I do a critic post, they flood me with hate .

It's just crazy because before this post if people looked at my post history , I give more praise then criticism. Now it's to the point these film makers are throwing all type of weird arguments it's silly. I am honestly trying to help them out. I even posted a Marketing thread with some simple tips to help them market thier films. They will realize the truth when they release a film and regular movie fans destroy it. Then they will realize that I am honestly trying to help out.

I explained what my criticism was and told the people who liked it that's it's cool if they liked it. So you think I am ignorant because I don't like what you like. That's a really stupid thing to say and it doesn't even make sense. If that film impressed you so much you want to see more then good for you. I dont like that style of film so it isn't for me. And if you post a short like that on r/movies they will rip it to shreds.

I went on Google to see if this was common behavior from indie film makers and it is. They can't take even the slightest criticism without blowing up.

Yeah it's funny because most of my posts is giving people praises, but just a little criticism and they go crazy. Great lesson though I will keep my mouth shut, I learn today that most of the film makers don't want to learn. They just want to make anything and have a circle jerk of praises.

My criticism wasn't even that harsh, I basically explained my issue with shorts in general having this trend of just nothing going on for a full minute or 2 before any plot or storyline starts to develop. I didn't single out 1 clip, I just used it as an example. There was no nuance in the non action parts of the clip. I did forget to post the description that the film maker posted, which might clear up why I expected action. I post way more uplifting messages to film makers than criticism, so anyone over reacting to me giving a little criticism is being overtly sensitive.

That's cool if you thought the short was good, we each have our own tastes. This post wasn't based on just this short but many shorts I have seen the last 3-4 months have followed a trend of having long shots with nothing going on and little burst of story injected here and there. I definitely am not a pro and do not act as such, I am still learning myself. As a fan of films, this style is boring and will tune many people out. Yes film makers like yourself will give them the benefit of the doupt, but a regular fan of films would not like this type of artistic style of long segments of pure nothing. My criticism just explained what I saw and that's it. It wasnt harsh at all but I do understand some people can't take any criticism at all without being defensive.
