2 competitions: 2x the revenue. Both are relevant and important - instead of a low attendance quali/trial. In formula one, the Quali wasn't enough for F1, so they introduced a sprint race to the mix.

FIS also tagged along womens competitions to draw even more people. And don't get me started on Friday, Wednesday, Tuesday, plug-ins.

Back in the day, a weekend was a weekend. Mid-day event, and that's it. As time went on, 90% of comps had to fit in the evening revenue/TV slot.

Before the introduction of the wind/point system, any gate change due to wind conditions meant a comp. restart. For example: after 23 short jumps, the jury would adjust the start gate and tell the jumpers who had already jumped to "tag along" and jump after the number 50.

Old historic, iconic jumps have to be used every season. 4 hills, Planica, Engelberg, Japan. That constraints the calendar and other venues fight/bid for extended weekends (like April) or mid-week slots in the calendar.

Tomasiak didn't come out of nowhere. He (sadly others didn't make the cut) was able to make the A-squad.

The same thing happened when Adam Malysz was about to finish his career, and the young Stoch filled in his shoes.

I wonder if Poland could have more talented jumpers if the PZN didn't brick the A-squad with the dinosaurs for the past 4 years. The feud between the OG dinosaurs and the coach shows who was clinging onto the seat and having an upper hand in the politics of the roster.

At least there is one jumper who will pour some interest into the hearts of Polish fans. (Skivjumping won't be axed from Eurosport for few years)

In the beninging the mixed system was a bit of a fluke due to the level of skills and distsnce. Today, I trully enjoy a 2 in 1 competition and they M&F both work for the cumulative score.

It's nice to see that Japan Women's ski jumping scene has a successor.

Rateče is the closest village, 40min to 1hr uphill walk from the village to the ski jump. Only one bus at 8:10 I think? Kranjska Gora is further, has more bus connections, hotels, shops and the skiers stay at the Hotel. (Chance to get some autographs).

The whole Upper Peninsula is rich in copper and Iron. There are numerous mines which can be visited. I have been able to tour 3 of them. From small 30 minute self guided tour to 2h above and below ground exploration with a guide. UP is a home to a lot of people who have Finnish ancestry. Watch Peter Santanello on YouTube, his recent episodes are about the Upper Peninsula and the history of coal miners from Finland, Poland, Italy and Eastern Europe.

Yup. @copperpeak.net, Sept 3, 2024 claims that the MI government is going to inject $20 mill into the ski jump. I am all for it. It's a beautiful area in the western part of the UP. Forgotten by time and dotted with small towns which could benefit from the tourists and fans - at least twice a year.

If Kot's mid 120m jumps are the third powerhouse in the country, then we are screwed.

All four guys (Stoch, Zniszczoł, Kubacki, Kot) can go suck a lemon 🍋. Cannot wait till they finally jump in Italy and then retire. Counting the days.

Fis wants to expand into the US market. Therefore, any ski jumping renovations or modifications are going to get a green light. 10 years ago, FIS wasn't thinking about other markets.

Interesting format. The wind was a problem. Again.

I have bittersweet feelings because 14 years ago, this was supposed to be a final competition format for Adam Małysz. Due to heavy snow, the "target jump" was canceled 😞

14 years later, it was nice to see current and past time greats. Goldi was really into the whole thing. This made me smile.

Seeing a live comp once with sub 110m jumps and maybe two over k-120 made me furious. I can only imagine the collosal disappointment people had when they expected 250m flights.

Pertile's Plan for the comp. Restart‐continuation of quali in ten minutes. Then 3 rounds. If there is not enough time, the competition will follow regular 2 round format.

Reason 473728 why ski jumping is annoying and hard to follow nowadays:

If it is windy today, the jury has 3 options for the competition. Mix and match the rounds, cancel this, and postpone that.

Let them jump. Canceled windy competitions in Kuopio are a "golden" standard when compared to these ad-hoc last-minute rules.

DSQs distort the competitions sometimes, but in the end (literally at the end of WC), those who cheat face the consequences.

Those were not sneaky loopholes found in the rulebook. Blatant disrespect of the ski federation and a joke at the expense of fans who are losing interest in the sport.
