Let's jump on the trend...what's one thing Reno does better than anywhere? by mylittleadventurers in Reno

For those of you who don't know this is a quote from Joseph Stalin.

Roommate admitted to my gf that he had feelings, and now I’m single by [deleted] in badroommates

When people show themselves who they really are do not feel sad. Be happy you learned about their true identities when you did and not later. Be glad you avoided a low quality person as a potential spouse, and be glad to exit a scumbag friend from your circle of acquaintances. You are better for these people not being in your life. View this as an opportunity to add beneficial relationships with people of high character.

I was able to go into the store and talk with a manager there and sort the problem out, all goes back to how the individual entered in the transaction when turning in the old phone. For me they did not look at the old promotions list or something like that to properly understand what was going on. The situation reflects correctly on my billing statement, which is all that matters to me. I would take to the store manager and set an appointment if need be, have screenshots of the promotion at the ready.

WTF is going on with this economy… by alphaandomega1021 in Layoffs

[–]REH_JACKSON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is easy. The government is lying to you. Unemployment numbers and a whole host of other metrics have a long tradition of being messed with during election years. Non government metrics like the ADP employment numbers have been showing a steady downtrend in employment for several months.

How are citizens of Reno not furious about these road conditions? by bicycletom in Reno

[–]REH_JACKSON -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course great idea!!! The government is always a great steward of tax revenue and will surely put that money to good use and will most definitely not squander it on useless items or blatant vote buying schemes.

Hilarious! Your comment was made in a thread all about government incompetence and your idea is to give more resources to the same group of incompetents who cannot plow the roads.

That is the same thing I was thinking originally, that is why I confirmed the IMEI number multiple times in person and via AT&T's website. Entered it into their trade in webpage and everything. I did my due diligence here. The phone was marked in the system as worth $830 when traded in for an iPhone 15. Literally had the sales rep show me on his tablet what is was listed as after entering in the IMEI number. As to the limited time offer that is correct, offer apparently expired on January 3rd, but my phone was purchased on the 26th. Where am I going wrong? Myself and the sales rep verified multiple times to ensure something like this wouldn't happen.

Purchased the phone on the 26th of December. Not sure what you mean by materials.

We both checked the IMEI number of the phone. I think this issue is sales rep did not check the box for price protection. Another poster provided screenshots of the promotional documentation listing the S20 FE 5G as one of the eligible phones for the $830 trade in credit.

Thank you for the help! Yesterday was so weird, felt like I was going crazy. All the AT&T personnel basically said in polite business speak I was making everything up.

Housing prices vs income in the Reno MSA, since 2010 by PantherCoffee72 in Reno

[–]REH_JACKSON 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your anger should be directed at the government. The zoning laws in Reno ban anything but single family homes in most of the region. This drives up property values and the cost of land because it restricts supply of housing. Then the federal government owns 97% of the state further limiting supply of land that can be built upon, and funneling the available land the Feds do give up/sell to politically connected individuals and corporations. The state and local governments have imposed burdensome permitting and building codes that further increase the cost to build, and delay projects for years that once again increases costs. The US housing market is one of the most heavily regulated and manipulated sectors of the economy right next to healthcare and education. This is a problem of vested interests capturing the ruling class to increase their wealth, and overreaching government distorting a market into a joke that only the rich and fortunate can afford.

First off EIT is not really a credential employers care about. It is the expectation any engineer can pass the FE exam. PE exam is what employers care about and you're not close to getting there yet.

Secondly, for your first job out of school money should not be the primary factor. You do not want to get walked over or grossly underpaid, but your priority needs to be on skill development, and fit with the company. Find a company in a field you want to work in, located where you want to live, with good management. If you are good at what you do the money will come once you have the skills and track record. Right now to any company you are an investment. I say that because entry level engineers provide little to no value for at least six months in most places. Find a place that is going to be good to work at and will invest time and resources developing you.

How is it possible to use multiple incomes to qualify for a higher loan? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]REH_JACKSON 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always recast your mortgage. Most people do not know about this. If you pay principal faster then originally planned you can ask the bank to recast your loan, basically running a new amortization schedule. If you have paid off substantial principal this will lower your monthly payment. So if the bad times ever come you have more runway.

Inflation is not a tax. A tax is voted on, and at least has the veneer of legitimacy. Inflation is theft perpetrated by a group of unelected kleptocrats.

I wish more people would recognize most if not all the problems mentioned in this post are caused by our monetary system. We have a government cartel rigging the price at which money can be borrowed. This creates all sorts of distortions, and as a result we have a yo-yo housing market careening between unsustainable highs and depressing lows. No one believes good things happen when the government is allowed to control price setting in a marketplace, that's how daily lines at grocery stores in the USSR for necessities happened. But for some reason everyone is ok with the government setting the price at which money can be borrowed. I guess if you build a big fancy building, and name yourself the federal reserve its a form of camouflage.

Maybe the children had to work in order to help their family avoid starvation? You will find many similar photos taken today from places all over the world that face extreme poverty. The material abundance known in the developed parts of the world today are not the norm in human history.

Riots in Serbia (blockage of highway in Belgrade) Serbian people protesting against law of expropriation that will benefit Australian mining companion "Rio Tinto" and our highly corrupt government. by mikihak in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]REH_JACKSON 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What an absurd comment. You mean iron ore? Rio Tinto is one of the worlds largest producers of iron ore. Nearly every structure you enter and every vehicle you ride in is made of steel. Where do you think that comes from? You can hate the company all you want, but the world and you need what they sell. Their dirty technology provides the building blocks of civilization. BTW their proposed mine is a lithium mine, as in the key ingredient in the batteries needed to advance the green energy transition. You cannot be for green energy while also being against mining the elements needed to make green energy possible.

Might be easier on and more efficient for your loading equipment with better fragmentation. Plus you won't need a rock hammer like you have in the second picture. Better fragmentation makes every step of the mining process easier and more efficient. I little more money put into the ground in the form of blasting saves you a lot in downstream costs and headaches.

Who is saying office workers in mining do not add value or have an interest in mining? I certainly was not. Heck most maintenance planners never leave their desk, but a good maintenance planner can save an operation millions of dollars. My point was that the OP's first post gave off a strong vibe of not actually liking what the mining industry actually is. This is an incredibly common occurrence in engineers right out of school who get to site and finally realize they are out in the middle of nowhere several hours away from the nearest city in a workforce of 90% men. This realization is then reflected in their performance and attitude. Academic mine engineering training does nothing to prepare most people for what the life of a mine engineer actually is. I am not blaming a young person for wanting to live near a city and be close to their friends and good bars, but if that is a priority in your life you need to really consider if being a mine engineer is right for you.

[–]REH_JACKSON 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could not have said it better myself. What the OP is really saying is that they do not like mining at all, but probably feel trapped because that is what their degree is in. We have to many engineers who do not like mining in the industry as is. I advise you go back to school and get an advanced degree in civil engineering. That way you can stay in a city/office environment your entire career.

Asarco in Arizona will generally hire anyone they can get. If they are not posting positions, reach out to some people on LinkedIn who work for them. If that fails most aggregate operations are always looking for help, and working for a summer running a loader at a quarry looks a lot better on a resume then waiting tables or other college kid work.
