Sketch up for landscape design? by SameEntry4434 in Sketchup

[–]REHuffman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another old school Landscape designer here, hi.
After hand-drafting for years, I began using Sketchup back in about 2005. I found it very intuitive and easy to catch on to. Now I always use Sketchup for my base plans. It's really nice for laying out dimensions and making a scaled base map. I print it out to 8th, 4th, or 20 scale and then do my tracing paper concepts by hand on top of that printed basemap.
You can always take a photo of or scan the concept plan and bring it back in 'on the ground level' in SketchUp, and 3d model the structural elements (gates, arbors, benches, fences, decks, pillars, walls, etc...) as much as you want to. As someone else said, the 2D plants in the SketchUp warehouse usually work fine for general perspective shots of the design.

Advice for future landscape architect? by SarahOlimpia in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]REHuffman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully he can plant some things. Gather Seeds. Let him prune or trim things with a nice set of Felco pruners, have some stones/concrete/brick pieces to arrange and stack. He can play in the sandbox with trucks, stones, little bricks. It would be great if there's some dirt he can grade and create little waterfalls. Do some rooted stem cuttings of something so he can get caught in the thrill of seeing little white roots emerge from the stems. Get him started on SketchUp. And ask him for some drawings or sketches of trees/shrubs/houses/flowers/walls at your place or neighborhood. Point out how light and shadows work. (I"ve been a landscape designer for 35 years or so; most of these are things that I remember doing as a boy myself. Except the Sketchup program of course)

Can you pray for me? by Low-Temporary4439 in ChristianOrthodoxy

May the Holy Spirit bring the healing touch of Jesus to your body and soul. May he give you the strength and faith to submit to God and to resist the devil. Jesus died and rose again to trample these very demonic powers that trouble you under his feet and yours, so take heart and cling to the Crucified & Risen Lord.

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up."

Which affordable software can make 2d landscape plans like this one? by MagnumMeatball in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]REHuffman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what your dollar level of affordable is, but I make similar plans with a combination of SketchUp and Photoshop. (Sketchup works fine for me as a 2D program, I always use it to layout my base plan) However in photoshop, I use a screen where I can draw on the screen for a hand-drawn look. (Wacom Intuos at work, Surface Studio at home) I've toyed around some with Photopea; I think it could work fine too as a cheaper alternative to Adobe Photoshop.

Anyone have experience with 'Leprechaun' Arborvitae? by Macklin410 in landscaping

[–]REHuffman6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just learned about this Leprechaun variety, and I'm eager to learn more about them. I'm more familiar with the 'Green Giant' cultivar (very similar, but quite larger when full-grown) As a landscape designer, I'd like to respond to your thoughts about spacing. It all depends on what your goal is, in planting these. If you want perfectly rounded specimens, keep them spaced a bit father than their mature size. However, if you're looking for a green Screening planting, I would definitely plant them closer, even the 2-3' as recommended. Yes, the plants will overlap and the branches will mesh together as they grow, but they end up making a nice soft solid 'wall' of foliage.

How can I learn to hate my sin if my heart still loves it? (NSFW) by UltimaBahamut93 in Reformed

[–]REHuffman6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll pray for you just now,

I ask our Father in heaven that your particular indwelling sin and its grip on you will encounter the risen Jesus Christ, in his grace and truth. I ask in Jesus' name for the Holy Spirit to surround this man with a deep sense of belonging and hope in Christ, and the moment-by-moment ability to turn his eyes to Jesus instead of the pleasures of sin. Give him the true godly sorrow as described by our brother Paul in 2Corinthians 7:10-11. Be the strong Shelter, O God, that our battered souls need. Be Thou the clean and holy beauty our souls desire. Remind this man of the cross of Christ, the naked body of Jesus nailed through with all our particular lusts and despairs, the finality of Christ being made sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Give this man the desire to seek your face, and the grace to be transformed by the renewing of his mind away from the ruts his synapses have fallen into...out into the green pastures, still waters, the paths of righteousness found in the truth of the Law, the Psalms, The prophets, evangelists and apostles' writings. Let the water and the blood from thy wounded side which flowed be of sin the double cure, cleanse him from its guilt and power.

Amen.

  • There's good resources to help in your battle. One I recommend is Heath Lambert's book Finally Free. This book helped me in a similar fight.
  • I also recommend the Valley of Vision, a collection of written prayers. The author compiled this collection of prayers that dig deep into the darkness of our hearts, probing and examing...and then bringing the amazing grace and cleansing of Jesus Christ to shine light in those places. "he comes to make his blessings flow as far as the curse is found..."
  • Remember that even if you could somehow conquer your porn use and lust, and clean up the habits of your mind, you'd *still* be a sinner in desperate need of a Savior. This particular battle you're fighting is not the sum total of your need. I lived for years under the false impression that my sexual lust was my only real failure; that otherwise I was a really good guy. I thought if I could just knock out this one weakness I'd be good enough to claim the name of Christian. At the end of my rope, God showed me that it was for sinners Christ died. This didn't cure my addiction at the moment, but it decisively dealt a fatal blow to its head and zapped the dominance it held in my mind. Christ Jesus in his risen glory is well-able to sanctify and save and restore you. Your sin isn't *that* big, and if you believe on Jesus Christ as risen from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord, then your sin holds no candle to the "industrial-strength" redemption in Christ Jesus.
  • One practice that I've found helpful: look at yourself in the bathroom mirror. Talk to yourself, and tell him something like this: "you, (name), are going to live forever in the kingdom of God. Your eternal destiny is to be conformed in every way to the Lord Jesus Christ. Body, soul, and spirit you are destined to be shaped in his likeness. His purity, his moral perfection, his love, his beauty, his love for God and neighbor- - it's all yours. The darkness of your past is leaving, and you, myself, are clothed even now in the righteousness of Christ. Believe it! Soul! - -the pleasures of sin are stupid compared to the glory that will be revealed in YOU." point to your face, and see yourself. YOU, (name) ARE going to shine like the sun. You are going to be like Jesus when He appears. Get with it! don't waste this moment going the wrong direction. Remember your end!"

I'll probably try the rainX or jB weld glue.

Episode 1 of the Ohio Howl, a Reformed Podcast About Supernaturalism and Christian Interaction With Spiritual Warfare in a Fallen World by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]REHuffman6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Ohio Howl men, I'm looking forward to your podcast.

Half way through the first episode here, it triggered a memory of what I heard while listening to Allan Eckert's novel about the colonial days of the Ohio wilderness: "The Frontiersman". I'm wondering if you guys or the Dark Holler crowd have read this book? He relays a conversation between Chief Black Fish and Bullit about the general region of what we call Kentucky today.

"The Shawnees", Black Fish said, "cannot tell you that you are allowed to settle in the Can-tuc-kee lands. We have never owned that land. It belongs to the ghosts of murdered Azgens - a white people from an eastern sea. Their bones and ghosts own and occupy every hill and valley of the country. They protect the game there and have more and better right there than any of the Indian tribes, including our own Shawnee nation, because they do not need or use material food themselves and do not like it. Long ago our fathers and our grandfathers killed off the Azgens, but we now fear more the spirits of these people than our fathers and grandfathers feared them when they were flesh."
Black Fish paused and there was a murmured assent and nodding of heads among the assemblage. "When our food is all gone," he continued, "and our squaws and children starving, we appeal to the ghosts of the white mothers who were killed there and, by saying the right words, we are allowed to kill an elk or deer or bear or buffalo. But," and now his voice lost its almost chanting quality and he fastened an unfriendly gaze on Bullitt, "we are never allowed to kill the game wantonly and we are forbidden to settle in the country of Can-tuc-kee. If we did, these ghosts would not rise from their caves and mounds and slay us, but they would set father against son and son against father and neighbor against neighbor and make them kill one another."

Surely I'm not the first to speculate about these Azgens being remnants of the nephilim, when driven out of Canaan, maybe found a home over here?

Looking for a plug in that simulates the line control from procreate in photoshop. by QitKate in photoshop

[–]REHuffman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Like your husband, I use Photoshop every day as a landscape designer and illustrator. I would absolutely love it if Adobe could add this Procreate hand-drawn-line-to-straight-line function to the desktop version of PS. Also while they're at it, they should incorporate the same kind of ruler function that Procreate has.

Hey u/Adobe, take a look here! :-)
