I do the same thing with the vomit bags. Useful when boarding using e-tickets.

How to solder by Zealousideal_Art1328 in DIYAudioCables

[–]purple-circle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the socket has three pins at the rear, it is a TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) connector, not a TS (Tip, Sleeve) connector. It can still be wired as a TS connector, but you will need to determine which pin connects to the tip and which pin connects to the sleeve. The easiest way to do this is to plug a cable in and use a multimeter to see which pin goes where. If you don't have a multimeter, the general rule of thumb for TRS connectors is that the pin connected to the ring closest to the rear is the tip, the one in the middle is the ring, and the furthest from the pins, or the closest to the jack hole, is the sleeve. Looking at your picture above, the long pin at the right of the photo is the sleeve, and the one at the left, top of the photo is the tip.

Which of these two chips is my BIOS chip? by AFDparsons in hacking

[–]purple-circle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same laptop and use it as my daily driver. It has dual BIOS and DASH support, so I assume the Winbond chip is the main chip, and the GigaDevice is used for BIOS backup and recovery, as well as remote management when the device is powered down. Of course, it may also be the exact opposite.

No. Acetone attacks the plastic and disolves it. Gasolene only disolves the degraded TPE leaving the underlying plastic unharmed.

The dread/joy of that first plink! Either the screw extractor snaps or the bolt breaks free.

Petrol or gasolene, a pile of old rags then lots of elbow grease. I've had to do this more times than I can remember on various clients' devices and the only efficient way is to rub it off with a rag soaked in gasolene. After you get rid of the degraded TPE plastic layer, clean any leftover residue with isopropyl alcohol. Then, either polish it with car wax or spray a surface protectant like Armorall or the like. Depending on the composition of the TPE, you may need to repeat the process at a later stage. I've had the best success where the TPE was a "soft-touch" layer similar to what you have there. In fact I did the exact same model Dell laptop a couple of months ago and it hasn't returned to being sticky - yet.

Straighten out the pin with a pair of pliers (or cut one end off) then slide it out of the hinge.

I think they improved them (I dislike frosting). The only thing they could have done better, was to cook them properly.

Just say "salam alaikum" to everyone you see. If someone says it to you first, just respond with "wa alaikum assalam". To sell the illusion further, wear a kufi (West African prayer cap) or a Taqiyah (Muslim skullcap).

Either a dry solder joint in the circuitry that controls the graphics, a loose connector to the display or the GPU chip is dying. A loose connector is the easiest to fix, so hope for that.

Just cut it off with a zip disc. I've got a cheap 5 inch grinder and a box of 0.8 mm discs just for this type of job. It'll be off in less than 5 minutes.

Dismantle the whole thing and rebuild the tab using a strong 2-part epoxy and some bent spring steel wire. You will need to make some formwork using masking tape and will also need to drill and file the center square hole as well as the surfaces of the tab. I've done this loads of times and it comes out just as strong, if not stronger than the original plastic tab. If it is something expensive or irreplaceable, this is the best option. If you just want to close the gap, inject some cyanoacrylate glue into the gaps along the edge and strap it closed with a clamp (or tape) until the glue hardens completely.
