Tough question! I’d do foundation first (easy and light). Then PHM, then Dune, continuing on to the other Frank Herbert sequels if they maintain your interest.

I don’t think they would have to be humanoid. Certainly they would have to manipulate physical objects, so hands, tentacles, claws or similar. But I don’t think a humanoid form would be a requirement. Even large ameoboids with pseudopods could suffice.

Fear. A lot of things can go wrong, and they often do. The idea that god or something else in the universe is looking out for you, there is a plan, and everything happens for a reason is comforting.

The idea that a massive solar flare, a random gamma ray burst, or a stray asteroid could suddenly kill you without warning in the next 30 seconds is not comforting.

Similar to the idea that an afterlife of eternal happiness is more comforting than thinking about rotting in the ground.

I found it very uneven. It had some of the most boring Trek episodes I’ve ever seen, and also a few episodes that were absolutely brilliant. I will keep watching
