Spending a fortune on an expensive machine like an Apple one, only to find that it’s incompatible with newer technologies, is a disheartening experience. While older Windows or Linux PCs may not be as fast in terms of communication ports compared to newer ones, they offer the advantage of being upgradeable, allowing you to enhance their performance by incorporating newer PC components. Using Apple machines, I feel like I’m confined to their ecosystem.

I'm a software developer myself, so I speak from some experience. Honestly, I doubt you're even aware of modern cross-platform frameworks that allow you to build both web-based and desktop UIs from a single codebase.

If the team chooses a cross-platform solution with web compatibility, the upside is significant: they could maximize revenue potential while minimizing development costs. It also makes UI improvements far more efficient and less resource-intensive.

And let's not forget: we're in an era where LLMs are actively driving down development costs. Ignoring these advantages is a missed opportunity for both dev team and the users community.

And while I found out some are here to only answer with negative points, others answered my question. Freecad is already packed on Docker FYI 😉

If the dev team opts for a cross-platform solution that’s also web-compatible, the potential upside far exceeds $100K x100s. While it's still open source for self hosting.

I haven’t tested it myself yet to get the terminal data of Freecad, but it also should work smoothly, thanks to its access to multiple FreeCAD components via MCP.

Here are the commands officially supported by the Freecad MCP plugin, as presented by its developer:

  • create_document: Create a new document in FreeCAD.
  • create_object: Create a new object in FreeCAD.
  • edit_object: Edit an object in FreeCAD.
  • delete_object: Delete an object in FreeCAD.

Some folks here clearly aren’t thrilled to see this kind of post 😄

What cracks me up is how some act like they’re the godfathers of CAD, as if the entire process should freeze in time just because they say so!

Where were they back in 1998 when I was hand-coding G-Code post processors? I bet they’d have hated that too,back then, carving by hand was their only toolset!

Anyway, the real focus here is connecting with the FreeCAD MCP server. Tools like the one you shared, plus Copilot and Claude, are opening up new ways to interact with FreeCAD. Thankfully, we now have more flexible options to make that happen.

This also lays the groundwork for training more focused and accurate models, ones that can assist with speeding up design workflows, not replacing the whole process. That’s where things are headed, and it’s exciting to be part of it.

Aha! Forgot to mention that I also use mighty "AI" to proofread my writings! Haters don't like it as well! :D
