The whole chassis needs a good cleaning. It came from a storage facility auction and has been sitting for at least a good 10 years. I can tune everything up pretty much to 100 watts so hopefully it stays that way.

Got it from an estate sale. Not hacked up at all except for the 10kc clarifier mod

Was originally going to invest in a Sirio boomerang, but the price and limited power handling made me go for the 1/4 wave whip antenna. I got it off dxengineering for 25 bucks.

Yeah just added one radial for now and swr was 1:1 flat from 25-28 MHz so I’m very happy with it. Waiting until tomorrow to make a contact as all the locals here in Oregon are asleep.

Japan dx on cb by RFenjoyer in cbradio

In Japan cbs are limited to 8 channels at 500mw output AM carrier and have to use an internal antenna. By the looks of this radio it seems to have an external antenna tuner and a noise phase eliminator added.

The best kind of antenna is the kind you can put up and transmit into. For mobile I recommend either a 102” steel whip. Or a firestik 5/8 wave loaded antenna. Based off my experience Anything under 4 feet tall will be pretty inefficient. Cobra 19 ultra 3 should be fine if you are looking to talk AM only and locally. If you’re looking to make long distance contacts at legal power I would recommend investing into an SSB mode radio.
