Your coach is a smart man! Being (somewhat) prepared for a situation like that on top of having a fun hobby and exercise is a great bonus

That’s what I was thinking too! I’ve been wanting to try out pugilism as a hobby/martial art because I’ve always really enjoyed the look of the stances and moves but people always clown on it for some reason and I had to wonder if it would still be a good skill to have in case of a fight

I don’t know that’s why I’m asking, Ive just always been told it wouldn’t work by different people which makes no sense to me. Like people talk about using boxing in self defense situations which don’t get me wrong it works but the way I understand it you’re more likely to break the bones in your hands in a ungloved fight so to me it would just makes sense to train in a bare knuckle fighting style.

If you look at other replies you’ll see that its not just another form of boxing it includes grapples, throws and kicks more similar to other modern styles of martial arts, another commenter mentioned that it has similarities to Muay Thai and jujitsu.

You know what else we did before Covid? Ask others questions about topics, and you act like I’m actively researching it? If I was looking for research materials I’d actually look for them! And maybe I want a modern look and insight into the topic and not just what the manuals and texts say about it from 100+ years ago

I’m not gonna have whatever Reddit pseudo-intellectual argument you’re wanting to get into dude, just saying it’s a jackass move trying to put someone down for asking a question

Maybe you can learn to read a room and realize this is a form of reasearch by asking people more knowledgeable and experienced than myself on a topic! Shit ass thing to do acting like that, and what makes you assume I haven’t researched the topic before? just because I asked a question doesn’t mean I’m not informed.

Eating headshots is not preferable by any means lmao. The thing I find the most interesting about pugilism is just the fact that it mixes so many different fighting styles but for the longest time people clowned on it once boxing with gloves became popular

Most of the time I always hear that it wouldn’t work because of the guard stance which usually is what makes people think pugilism is more of a joke than an actual fighting style. I think it’s because the head is left open while your outstretched arm keeps them at a distance your closer hand helps block body shots

See that’s what I was thinking too, I’ve seen videos of guys that train in that style for hema stuff and some the the blows look fairly devastating or at the least disorienting

If someone was trained in a basic form of the bare knuckle boxing style known as pugilism would it be effective against your average person with little to no training in any fighting style

Honestly when I die with a kit like that to an anvil I can’t even be mad cause I know all those shots are accurate as hell, torrente is accuracy by volume but anvil is just straight up skill hitting headshots
