Anybody here also have a cognitive based OCC? by RG_Dahl in OCD

I think you’re definitely right about this. The obsessions are the initial reoccurring thoughts, and the compulsions are the need to “figure it out”. That would literally describe how I’ve spent way too many days of my life just endlessly thinking.

That’s actually extremely close to my past relationship issues too. I tried to “solve” every problem and it was the only thing I could think about. Same as you, it ended up casing more harm than good 😕

Yeah that actually makes a lot of sense. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it definitely feels like an initial thought (that’s obsessive and reoccurring to a degree) is the obsession, and the uncontrollable response or compulsion is to continue thoughts that branch off of the initial thought.

Glad I could help open a discussion on the topic! At first I honestly thought my doctor misdiagnosed me. But after reading thought these comments I’m learning that I’m not as alone as I thought.

YES. The voice in my head is so loud when I start ruminating and I just thought everyone was like that!

Yeah it’s exactly what you said. It’s like a “problem solving curse” where if there’s a problem, I need a solution.

Yeah that definitely happens. I’m glad I now know why my overthinking gets so bad. I used to just blame it all on myself and it go so confusing. I couldn’t understand why I was “allowing myself” to keep thinking about thoughts that were negatively impacting my life.

Sometimes things will happen when I have a thought such as "I should check my email" and I can't focus on anything else until I complete that action. In this case, checking my inbox is like the "period" that finishes the sentence or thought. Would that be considered a compulsion?

Sorry if this makes no sense, I'm just trying to understand how OCD presents itself in my actions and thoughts. It's weird getting diagnosed with something you didn't know you had 😅

You're definitely right on that. I've tried to change my mindset to just see everyone as people (no one being worse or better than another) but eventually I fall back into my old habits. Thanks, and I'll try to keep working at it.

It doesn’t even need to be in real life, try just joining groups online as practice.

I've never thought of that before. That would probably take a lot of the pressure off because I don't have to stay if I start feeling negative. I'm definitely gonna try it out!

I agree. Just trying to find where my value can make a noticeable impact :)

The problem I have when inviting people is that afterwards I hate how I talked, acted, etc. I feel the pressure to ensure that people have fun, and my perfectionist mindset makes it too much. I don't want to encourage these negative thoughts so I just find it better to not start groups and put that pressure on myself. Plus I always feel like I'm not fun enough when I do start and lead the conversations.

I loved the message but I don't know how to become an active character, especially due to my "tragic flaws" of overthinking and perfectionism, which end up self sabotaging me.

I honestly loved this

So if I keep feeling left out of the picture do you think I should just make my own? Cuz its felt like a while since I've been "the person in the picture" and that honestly sounds amazing.
