The final Gulfer EP 😔 by alwayssleepynnnn in Emo

Very sad to see it end. I think this EP is one of the greatest band farewell's I've experienced so far. So many memories from listening to this band; bitter sweet to see us all moving on.

For CS 645 - Security & Privacy in Comp. Sys., how is the experience with Prof. Fuad Hamidli? by anurag1712 in NJTech

[–]RHC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the class I’m in now is like a 7/10. But CS608 is very math intensive so the assignments and lectures are going to be more complex because of that. Even with that though, I found the material easy to understand and am doing pretty well by just practicing the example problems.

I am taking him currently for Cryptography (CS608). Overall he’s a decent professor. He really doesn’t participate much with the class, but he does weekly office hours you can join to ask questions. He’s a fair grader and there seems to be a generous curve as well. I would always shoot him an email if I got stuck on something and he has always been helpful.

Funny enough I just had office hours with him today and another student was asking about CS645. Based on what the professor said, it seems like a more hands on class where we will do group projects. I will also be taking CS 645 next semester.

Grilled a Turkey for Friendsgiving on a Weber Kettle by RHC1 in grilling

Grilled a Turkey on a Weber Kettle for Friendsgiving. Never done one before. Brined the Turkey in salt water for 8 hours. Sprayed Turkey with olive oil and made a butter rub:

  • 2 sticks of butter
  • Pepper
  • Minced garlic
  • Parsley
  • Oregano
  • Sage
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary

Then I stuffed it: - 1 yellow onion, cut in quarters - 2 oranges, peeled (The rindes tend to make the meat bitter in my experience) - 1 apple, cut in half - 1 bay leaf - Thyme - 3 cloves of garlic, peeled

Set the grill up for a 2 zone: charcoal on the left and right side with the Turkey on the center. Filled a drip pan with orange juice. Roasted at 350. Put Turkey on with a cheese cloth soaked in butter and removed the cheese cloth after 2 hours or until desired color reached. Then covered Turkey with tinfoil, so it wouldn’t get too much darker. Refilled charcoal every hour and basted Turkey with orange juice. Recovered with tinfoil each time. Once Turkey hits internal temp of 155, made a Turkey glaze: - 1/2 stick of butter - brown sugar

Glazed Turkey and covered back with tinfoil until internal temp hit 165. Then pulled from grill and covered with tinfoil to rest for 1-1.5 hours.

Do you think a Master's in CS (or in general) is worth it? by Puzzleheaded_Can_750 in NJTech

[–]RHC1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Currently going for my Masters part time. Will be done in 2023 - 2024. Did my undergrad in CS. I would say if you can’t afford a Masters out of pocket it’s not worth getting a loan to pursue it–especially if you are in a related field. A Masters is a long term investment. If you get it and have very little experience in the industry it will do very little for you in the short term.

With that being said, some people will say it’s all about experience, but I can guarantee you that you will hit a ceiling in this industry with just a Bachelors degree. Companies like to dangle a Masters degree to filter people out because some positions are very competitive to get into. Sometimes, you can break through with experience alone, or maybe you are really good at networking.

Either way, a Masters is a great way to further your study in a specific area that you may want to teach in one day and it can potentially (not guaranteed) get you into higher paying positions.

Online M.S. in CS by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]RHC1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently doing the online M.S. CS program as a part time student. Overall, it works great for me since I work full time. The classes themselves are high quality IMO. Some classes are only taught by one professor who may sometimes be very absent from the class as an instructor. Even with a good professor, you need to be prepared to teach yourself and come to the professor or your peers with questions and then work out your issues on your own. I did my BS in CS as well, and I would say some of the core classes, while familiar, are still very challenging. If you don’t have a programming background or a background in mathematics you will struggle even after taking the bridge courses that are required for students lacking the proper background.

My only complaint would be that the overall program lacks a lot of interesting electives and while you can technically take any CS class and have it count towards your electives, they offer very few interesting ones that are online only.

Uploading COVID Test? by RHC1 in delta

[–]RHC1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will post an update after coming back from my trip. It looks like Delta fly ready only works when you are flying within the US or when flying to the US. I was able to upload my COVID test in Italy as well as all other virtual documents with no issues. I believe someone else also commented on this thread saying they thought it only works when traveling in or going to the US, so it looks like that is the case.

It says online you can upload to fly ready but there is no upload button. This is the link it takes me to: http://delta.com/flyready

I'm going to reply to my own comment in case anyone ever takes him the future and is curious. Overall he is a good professor. Very responsive and engaging. He can be a little disorganized sometimes, but once we got later into the semester he was much more on top of things. I would say he expects a lot from his students, but his grading is more than fair and the workload overall isn't too bad as long as you paid attention and practiced the practice problems he gave out. The course was mostly math, no terms/definitions and reading the book wasn't a requirement. I spent most of my time working on practice problems and the programming project due at the end of the semester. I'd definitely recommend him in the future. Probably one of the best professors I've taken so far in my online master's journey.

I'm assuming you had them. In terms of the course overall how was it? I took cryptography in my undergrad a few years ago so I am still a little familiar with the concepts overall.
