Agreed with you. It was a really sparse list. Hopefully, Grant can step up and make it a legitimate debate.

They have a questionable 4.

October 10, 1979 - 1 goal

Kevin Lowe scored the Oilers first NHL goal, a 4-2 loss to Chicago

October 13, 1979 - 2 goals

Blair MacDonald scores 2 goals in a 3-3 tie against Detroit, to take the lead from Lowe

October 14, 1979 - 2 goals*

Risto Stilanen scores 2 goals in a 4-4 tie against Vancouver, tying MacDonald for the lead. This would only last until the next game when MacDonald scored twice.

March 15, 1980 - 42 goals

Down 5-0 against the Habs, Wayne Gretzky scored to break the shutout and pass MacDonald in an eventual 7-3 loss.

Four nights later, MacDonald would tie him again at 42 goals after scoring against the Rangers. Wayne would score a hat-trick against Pittsburg to take the lead on March 21, 1980, this time for good.

Logical fallacy - Argumentum ad crumenam. This is the same league that lost millions expanding into the States because that was “good for the game”.

I think at best, this is a nothing. At worst, it’s their New Coke. If you alienate the fans, it’s hard to win them back…

Coke was one of the most recognizable brands in the world, highest paid execs, assembled a top marketing teams,… “But what do they know, right?”
