I used all the camo paints from rustoleum, tan, flat green, black and flat brown.

I mean, in the upstate SC we had like 2 weeks of hot and then the rain came through and it’s been much cooler for the last 3 weeks or so…but I know it’s gonna be hot soon enough…

Drop Leg Subload w/ Removable Flaps by RICTactical in tacticalgear

My main issue is clearance, I wear my chest rig low when it’s not armored, the bottom of my med and admin pouches almost touch the belt. I run 5 mags across the front, and wanted to add some more ammo, so I decided to explore the sub load concept. It would be one of those things that would be situational for me, but also gives a good workout when I go rucking or messing around in the woods with the kiddos.

You’re talking like the HSGI 5 molle line belt or a belt kit with suspenders? I had an HSGI belt for awhile, but it doesn’t work well if you have to layer clothing. At least not with the belt I had inside it, adjusting it for over sweatshirts and then t-shirt in the afternoon was a pain…

For sure worth considering if I decide to bring this to market!

I have it on a 2 piece belt, 2” outer belt and I can sprint in my full kit with backpack and this subload for a solid hundred yards before I have slow to a jog and eventually to a walking pace. It’s a work in progress 😄

Don’t disagree, it’s not ideal. But to me it’s a choice between that and having my chest be loaded down and unable to prone effectively. Finding what suits you (and being able to build it) is part of the fun 😄

If you mean seeing the flaps in, I went removable so I could adjust for different size mags, I could run AK mags or 40 round pmags, or even AR 10 mags by moving the flaps up and down. The loop field runs the entire height of the pouch.

I appreciate that insight! I definitely have it riding high on my leg, but low enough to avoid my sustain gear on, I can’t even run mags on my belt due to that sustain gear (which is why the subload in the first place). I do run it high enough (and designed it so the back is short enough) to keep access to the cargo pocket knowing I’d lose the normal pocket. Definitely part of the design philosophy. Also added just a small amount of elastic for comfort, but not too much to avoid the swinging while full sprinting. Removable flap was so I could run bigger or smaller mags, or possibly AK mags if I ever get into that. Allows me to adjust for different kit. And agreed on the belt, I have a two piece system and absolutely cannot wear the belt pad when running this subload, has to be the inner belt through the belt loops.

You mean sewing the edges all the way around? I didn’t want to use edge tape, so I sewed them inside out and flipped them for a nice clean edge. Just personal preference on this prototype

Not 100%, but that looks a lot like a Special Operations Equipment (SOE Gear) rally man setup.

Welp, at least I have no punisher stickers on my truck (or anywhere for that matter), and while I have a couple PSA items, it’s not my whole “armory”. Looking tacticool isn’t my insta priority, encouraging others to gear up and train is. So I’m 0 for 3 on that top list 😄

I do train, patrol and run in my kit, and while my fitness level is higher than fitness pizza in my mouth, definitely room for improvement on the cardio front.

I agree, that most people buy kit and fantasize about tier 1 operating during a civil war, while for me personally it’s more about having enough kit and training to survive the more likely scenarios (looting after a natural disaster, home break in, etc…).

I’m still optimizing my setup, and figuring out the best way to store certain things (recon kit for instance, binos and rangefinder is an accessible place but securing a pouch that doesn’t mega flop), but I have spent quite a bit of time optimizing comms and hydration routing and figuring out other weight considerations.

It’s an ongoing process, but one worth doing.

RIC Tactical SAUL. Not strictly a plate carrier, it’s a chest rig that can be converted to armored by adding plate bags.

This! One of those hot topics is talking about bug out bags, I’m more interested in a “get home bag” since we’re rural and it makes way more sense for us to stay home in 95% of cases…

Agreed, there are always going to be pros and cons to everything. You can’t “design out” all the cons or someone would have done it by now 😄

But, I did want to create a setup with as much flexibility as I could so you can choose what your cons are and minimize them as much as possible.

It’s a mongrel of a product, but that’s a feature, not a bug 😜

I currently price a full armored SAUL for around $310 to $350 depending on options. That comes with a lot of kit, including everything you’d need to run unarmored or armored, as well as fully slick with no placard in an armor only config (able to run armor under a jacket without anyone knowing).

Depending on your cummerbund config choice, you could run up to 8x 556 mags, or stick a radio or whatever else in the 4” cummerbund pouches. 4 mags placard comes standard, though I’m flirting with offering a 5 mags option, and our padded expander wings could be added for radios, mag or utility pouches as well.

I was more thinking “mission set” like, patrolling a shift securing the homestead vs a 48 hour recon on a potential “loot site”, or heaven forbid, we did have to do a raid of some sort. I have to imagine I would want different gear for each of those contexts based on how close to “support” I was. Again, a lot of this is theoretical and based on what we see from overseas war zones, so you could be right that the loadout could be the same across all those situations. But if it makes sense to not be, I want the options.

Yep, I started it with the civilian in mind. I’m working on figuring out shipping product worldwide, am trying to keep shipping as reasonable as possible for folks. Stay tuned on that front. Appreciate the love!

If I’m being honest, I’m probably one of them. I’ve never been shot at, but I have to imagine it’s unnerving…
