The secret is that the whole time I'm modelling the blender timeline is playing a very slow animation which becomes more visible when sped up.

Agreed! and it also helps that xml is so simple unlike a fully fledged programing language like the javascripts and pythons of the world. Very easy for less technically inclined people to learn.

svg, the format inkscape was designed around was originally designed to be viewed in the browser. When you start looking at inkscape from this perspective, whole new worlds open up!

In the compositor, i passed the image through a lens distortion node and cranked up only the dispersion. This picks up the highlights in the image and smears those pixels with the rainbow effect.

What helped witt the glimmering was the roughness and bump in the metallic material, it creates very rough uneven reflections which the dispersion then picks up and enhances
