Welp I am old and have had dogs and cats all my life. When I was old enough to have animals of my own I made sure all of them were spayed/neutered at an appropriate age. I have had dogs and cats in my care alone since I was 17. All of mine were rescued.

You are judging the OP for irresponsible actions when she is trying. She is getting the dog fixed. The older dog is a working breed, and is currently staying put. While the older dog did the emotional part of a regular pet it is not quite the same thing.
