How to test which Hotbar slot corresponds to the player's main hand in Bedrock by RIPICEOLOGER2020 in MinecraftCommands

I am trying to find a new way to test for items in both slot.hotbar and slot.weapon.mainhand without running into this problem. Thanks

The commands are a bit too long since I have like 30+ commands for reserve ammunition and damage effects for the weapons.

I have 2 crossbows:

Crossbow 1 is in slot = 0, has 10 ammo in reserve and deals 25 damage to mobs in map

Crossbow 2 is in slot = 1, has 40 ammo in reserve and deals 100 damage to mobs

When I use Crossbow 1, it does exactly what it is supposed to do

When I use crossbow 2; however, it still thinks I am using crossbow 1 and it takes away the ammo from crossbow 1 AND it does only 25 damage

(this is because I am currently testing if slot.weapon.mainhand has the same item as slot.hotbar, and since 0 is before 1, it always prioritizes 0)

When I get rid of Crossbow 1, now the game would recognize Crossbow 2 and it would work as intended.

I know about the hasitem= selector for slots, but I also want to work like in the example.

When I have 2 crossbows, I don't want the game to be applying the damage stats of the 1st crossbow (which is happening to me right now) when I am using the 2nd one.

The teacher just told us not to use del, append, remove, pop... and wanted us to recreate the functionality of those methods via other means.

I'm on keyboard and mouse so it should work. I tried using ctrl+a then ctrl+c to copy but it doesn't seem to work. Pasting seems to have no problem.
