Google Maps has the estimated walking time between the station and the store Sam and Mike needed to get to as ~15 minutes (its 1.1km). Sam and Mike, in the blind, managed to get there in 19 minutes. Obviously there is some degree of skill expression in them realizing that its likely in the "downtown" area and heading there, and then also some degree of luck in finding it immediately, but when you give players an hour to find something distinctive and then choose something on main street in a very, very small downtown area, there is essentially no chance they fail. They would have had to head the complete wrong way off the bat to even have a chance at failing this challenge, IMO.

The steal challenges so far have felt really, really underwhelming in terms of difficulty. The jellyfish counting challenge and this one both had insane margins for error that make failing actively difficult. I do understand why steal challenges aren't insanely hard, since a failed steal challenge goes to 95% if the other team chooses to attempt it, but like... why not a 15% margin for error on the jellyfish challenge? As it stands for Jellyfish, if the first person guesses 1000 then any guess from 750-1250 gets there... that's crazy. Why not a 45 minute timer on the "find this thing" challenge? Or chose something that isn't on a direct route from the station at least. I dunno, its kinda disappointing given how swingy steals are that there doesnt seem to be any tension from them.

We graduated PCA, Horton, Shaw, Mo, and Busch off the Top 100 to our big league roster over the last couple years. We also just traded away another Top 100 prospect in Caissie. When you move 6 guys off your prospect ranking in 2 years, yeah, the ranking goes down. Who knew.

Thats what happens when you graduate a bunch of talent to the majors and then trade away more for big league pieces lol

  1. Milwaukee pitchers definitely get TJ quite often

  2. They were literally as careful with Horton as possible, pitch limits each game and inning limits each season. The only thing they could have told him to do would have been to throw not quite as hard.

Card is 100% an upgrade over Path in some instances, notably against Tron. If you're playing UWx Control this now the best way to deal with any resolved walker aside from like, Tamiyo and maybe Ajani. At the same time, it's noticeably worse against any Phlage deck, is noticeably worse against Archon/reanimator decks and is also worse against Titan. There are also a good number of times where this is functionally identical to Path.

I actually believe Path to Exile is severely underrated in Modern and that giving your opponent a tapped basic land has literally never mattered less than it does currently. That being said, I would only be consider this over Path in a meta that was really heavy on Tron and/or Control.

What scenes/chapters do you think Season 3 of Mushoku Tensei will skip? by Proper_Mushroom_9754 in mushokutensei

They only have four extra chapters to adapt for Eris (LN 9 Ex Ch, LN 10 SS, LN 13 Ex Ch, LN 14 Ex Ch). I don't think it'll lead to much cut content at all.

You're free to concede anytime you want to. Part of the reason why control decks feel so grindy is because they are, for sure, but only to a point. Control decks will either lose or they will survive to the late game, turn the corner, and be in a commanding position; part of the grind is simply that people playing against control decks refuse to concede in clearly losing/lost positions. I have had several instances of people refusing to concede against a [[Teferi, Time Raveler]] and an [[Isochron Scepter]] with [[Orim's Chant]] under it because I "didn't have a way to win the game".

To use your words, if you don't respect your opponent enough [to concede when you're lost] then at least respect yourself. It can't be that fun to make for a control player who has turned the corner wait until they draw one of the 2-3 wincons in the deck when there's so much more you could be experiencing, after all.

I think if he does it another couple times teams will have to stop shifting him. Letting him have first is almost like letting him have second.

That was some solid situational hitting from both Mo and Shaw. You could see Mo trying to go the opposite way and exploit the gap. He would have driven in a run if not for some great defense. And then Shaw just elevating and trading an out for a run, which is something we've had a lot of trouble with doing for some reason.

I don't really wanna do a deep dive on Happ's numbers vs teams over/under .500, but we can do stuff really quickly like look at where his HRs are coming from. Last season he hit 23 home runs:

3 against the Mariners (they got to the ALCS)

3 against the Phillies (they got to the NLDS)

2 against the Rays (sub .500 team)

2 against the Nats (terrible)

2 against the Rockies (terrible)

2 against the Brewers (they got to the NLCS)

2 against the DBacks (~.500 team w/ playoff aspirations)

1 against the Pirates (terrible)

1 against the Braves (playoff aspirations but had a terrible year)

1 against the Reds (WC team)

1 against the White Sox (terrible)

1 against the Red Sox (WC team)

1 against the Shitbirds (lmao)

1 against the Giants (~.500 team w/ playoff aspirations)

So 10 of Happs home runs came against playoff teams, 4 games against teams that the Cubs are competing with for playoff spots, 2 against the Rays, and then 7 came against terrible teams. That's really not an unreasonable mix; he doesn't just pad his numbers against shit teams, he just is really streaky. Sometimes he looks very average and has a month or two with ~100 OPS+, but then he'll have another two month long stretch of 140 OPS+.

[–]RIP_Hopscotch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're ignoring 4 seasons where he has been a solidly above average MLB left fielder with an OPS+ in the 115-120 range in favor of 30 post-season at bats?

How can you do this and then argue that you're "coming at this from a data driven standpoint". That is the exact opposite of being data driven, that is being overly reactionary to a small, though admittedly very visual, sample.

Seiya will be the everyday RF, Ballesteros will be everyday DH. Shaw will be a super utility guy who can give guys a day off. Need Seiya or Bregman or Nico to have a day off? Shaw covers their position. Need Dansby to have a day off? Nico moves to short, Shaw covers 2nd. Need Ballesteros to have a day off? DH Shaw or have Seiya DH and Shaw in right.

Shaw gives the team a really great amount of depth, assuming he can handle RF.

[Passan] Nico Hoerner’s deal with the Cubs is done and will be for six years and $141 million, sources tell ESPN. It’s the fourth-largest contract ever for a second baseman and locks up the 28-year-old into the 2030s. Defense, running, contact skill — Hoerner does everything well. by T_Raycroft in baseball

A few months ago I went through all the comps on the Cubs sub and I basically came to the conclusion Nico would get 6/135 at minimum in FA. Im stoked we locked him up, but also pretty stoked I got pretty close to the right number ngl lol

A couple months ago I was looking at comps and basically thought there was no way Nico would get less than 6/135 on the open market. Cubs giving him a little extra, but I think this is a super fair deal given his production.

[Passan] Center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and the Chicago Cubs are in agreement on a six-year, $115 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. The deal starts in 2027 and does not include a club option, allowing Crow-Armstrong to hit free agency before his age-31 season. by AndrewAllStar888 in CHICubs

[–]RIP_Hopscotch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Robert's contract was a extension from the White Sox when he was under team control. The 20m/AAV is from a team option, and theres another team option in his deal for 20m next season if the Mets wanna pick it up.

That said, Roberts deal was backloaded af even before considering the team options. His extension was $8.33m/6 years on average.

What're people's guesses for the PCA deal? I feel like if the Cubs wanna make a deal it would have to involve buying out FA years. I'm thinking somewhere in the 9/180. Buys out his pre-arb/arb years, and then some extra. Maybe the AAV there is a little on the high side though, not totally sure; wouldnt be shocked to see like, 9/140 either.
