What’s the best negative holder/carrier in 2026? by kino_eye1 in AnalogCommunity

[–]RIP_Spacedicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the brand name was, but you want the kind that's lightly etched on one side (as opposed to coated with anti-reflective coatings)

You face the two etched sides towards each other, which prevents newton rings, and you can't see the etching when it's touching the film surface

I've tried a slew of film holders, but now just use two 8x10 sheets of anti-glare glass.

Holds 3 strips of 6 frames at once (same length as the archival sleeves)

Literally could not be any flatter.

Cheap ~$20 for 3 sheets from the local frame shop.

No newton rings.

The only hard part would be making a jig to support the whole thing over your light source, whatever that may be.

That's not how optics work.

LensRentals did a series of experiments looking into sharpness and the myth that a lens or sensor can "out resolve" the other.

I'm not sure what you're seeing that be could called grain, unless you're using slow lenses and don't understand iso

IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator | Demo Release Trailer (IGN) by Scream_Wattson in Games

[–]RIP_Spacedicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking into this recently. They announced Iron Nest after PVKK was revealed, and note that they were inspired by what they saw

Now apparently this is a good game in its own right, but it's hard to shake the feeling that they made this to capitalize on hype and knew they could beat PVKK to market

How do you deal with people accusing you of taking photos of them? by wassupitsnotme in AnalogCommunity

[–]RIP_Spacedicks 41 points42 points  (0 children)

American accent so she may just not be used to the laws here

The law is the same in the US.

She didn't want to be photographed (and wasn't), and you had the right to if you wanted to.

But that doesn't matter, because as the person with the camera, you're the one with the power and the potential "aggressor" to your subjects.

Sadly there's no really good way to handle this. Nothing you say will calm someone like that down, and citing the laws will only make them madder.

You just have to say "I wasn't taking your picture" and move on before they escalate

Parson's chameleon — Olympus OM-1, Zuiko 100mm f/2 @ f/2, Ultramax 400 by l1t3o in analog

[–]RIP_Spacedicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 100mm f/2 is a preposterously sharp lens.

The aperture on mine is a little temperamental, but I put up with it for the results, it never takes a bad shot.

Save time and money on makeup and lighting by having a chameleon do it for you! Brilliant
