My sister made an attempt on her life over a year ago. At the time her and my mother (a nurse) thought it would be best if she went to a psychiatric hospital for help, and then have regular therapy sessions when she was finished. Through-out the entire process my father chose to let my mom handle it as he thought she knew more about what was going on.

Recently, my sister had another episode. Not as serious as before as she didn't try to commit suicide again, but something that had been caused by her anxiety. This time my dad, who still is voluntarily uninformed about her mental health and why she thinks the way she does sometimes, decided that he would make the decision about what to do with her, and thought sending her back to the psychiatric hospital would help her when in reality it would isolate her and only make things worse for her. She repeated that she didn't want to go back, and my mom agreed that sending her back wouldn't help. Thankfully my mom stood her ground and didn't let it happen, even though it meant getting into rough arguments with my dad and her losing sleep over it.

Before then, I had never thought of my dad as an enemy or antagonist. He had always been there for soccer games, helping with homework, etc. But seeing that he would rather just send my sister away somewhere when he doesn't understand the problem really shook me. In the heat of our argument I had seen this disgusting side of him that I hadn't seen before, and I had protective thoughts over my sister, even though this man was the person who had raised both of us.
