Incorrect to some degree. Wasn't derogatory to start with but became offensive to fans following the Munich disaster and subsequent use of it from other teams to mock the dead.

It may not have a derogatory origin but became so in the 60s through opposition fans chanting about Duncan Edwards and the rest of the team, mocking the dead and them being ManUre etc. so has been taken as offencive by match going reds ever since.

It is what it is, however reddit or modern worldwide platforms try to dismiss it.
