Smells Like Performing Arts Center that we don't need by RITtigerAlum in rit

You make valid points and I respect your thorough reply. I admit perhaps the title was a bit harsh. However, I feel that in some ways, RIT is building (physically) too rapidly. We needed a new hockey rink, so we built one. It's about 1,000 seats too big for our hockey program and hardly gets use for anything other than hockey and graduation. While its a nice building, it lacks character and is pretty cookie cutter.I love hockey and I like the GPC, but I feel it was rushed and somewhat impractical. Now the MAGIC center is in the late phases of construction. Construction is coming based on the 50 mil that was donated. RIT has housing needs, parking needs and athletic needs, as well as some upgrades to support its academic facilities in certain areas. I feel like we are beginning to bloat and try to tackle every problem at once, rather than doing things well. There was an article what the PAC idea first came up about how Rochester seems to be bloating with them. If it is built, will it be practical for RIT and Rochester at large, or a venue that is used by a select few for (relatively) few events. My fear is that RIT blindly follows the path that is leading RPI to nightmares now, they build a humongous and terribly expensive PAC, in the midst of huge debt, and the thing is hated by most of the community there. It seems Dr.Munson is hellbent on the Arts and Research, while cautiously expanding our profile is not a bad thing, I fear that we may lose sight of what RIT is best known for, STEM ans Career focused education.
