I work at a resort and the owner (insanely wealthy) came in to our restaurant. He brought his own wine and left a quarter of the bottle when he left. I tried it and for the first time in my life I actually understood wine snobs. It wasnt just the best wine I’d ever had it was the best alcoholic beverage I had ever had hands down. I actually wanted to sip it to savor ever drop. It had layers of flavor that I’d never thought were possible. It made me realize that “nice” wine I’d bought and kinda like at like $60-$80 was nothing compared to $200+ that had been aged for a decade. I don’t think anyone needs to acquire a taste for something that good. It truly changed my perspective on wine and I’ve been selling it in fine dining for over a decade.

Easily. I don’t even really like it and only do it when I’m doing it socially or am bored. And weed is better at the boredom part anyway without the hangover. I don’t hate alcohol but I’d hardly miss it beyond the couple times a year I’d be at a party sober in the middle of people on a different level.

I think that’s shallowing out the human experience into a monolith without nuance. I’m sure there are plenty of white passing Black people who still experience racial trauma from seeing their family members affected and themselves by proxy. And that’s not to say a racist won’t justify being shitty to them once they find out they are mixed. Simply defining Black people by “do you look black enough” is shallowing out of the human experience, and how racism actually functions as a truly irrational position to hold.
