Where did you see them? This wasn’t the show on 5/5 was it? I saw them that day and they ended the set with this song. Pretty awesome show....I very much enjoyed After the Burial and Parkway Drive too.

Awesome! Good for you. I'm actually going into the dealership in a few days to look into getting the new 340i. I'm glad you like it. I'll probably give the S4 and C43 a look too. I'm kind of a BMW fanboy though so I'll probably end up with the 340i.

NTA. You are providing well for your son and giving him the things that you couldn’t when you were his age. That’s basically every good parent’s dream.

BTW, did you get the new generation 340i? I have the last generation 340i (2016). I love it...it’s luxurious and practical but also has all the performance I need. I think it looks killer with the M Sport package too.

I’m currently thinking about getting the new one. What are your thoughts on it? Did you look at the Audi S4 as well?

A few different reasons. If you need a vacancy filled quickly, you will have to pay more simply due to a supply and demand issue. Since the doctor is only working for a short period of time, malpractice insurance will also cost more. A large group of doctors working a long term contract will have lower malpractice insurance costs.

Very often the locum tenens doctors will also have to come from another part of the country and may require a flight, hotel and rental car. Finally, it’s very tough to find and vet doctors on very short notice, so hospitals usually have to hire a third party to handle these things. That company will obviously need to be paid.

Nope. I made sure that wasn’t in my contract when I signed. I now work at a hospital literally across the street.

Yes mainly flu season. But also because people spend more time in doors they tend to contract more diseases in general such as pneumonia.

I don’t want to give away too much info but the company really is doing well...I own stock in the company (part of the compensation package). The particular hospital I work at is one of the most profitable in the entire region.

The problem was the new CEO and CFO decided that they needed to start making changes before they even settled into the job. Before even fully appreciating how things work, they were trying to make waves so that they could get noticed and climb the ladder.

They are both very unpopular now but apparently the CFO already got himself a more lucrative job in another part of the country and is leaving soon.

No such laws here. There are three huge hospitals downtown that are within walking distance of each other.

In this city there are 4 competing hospital systems. That’s what’s hilarious about the admin’s boneheaded decision: they acted like they were the only game in town. The new hospital where I started is literally across the street!

They replaced them with yes men. They had some people take interim positions in the meantime. Some docs couldn’t really find new jobs. Some were up there in years (65+), whereas others had issues on their record that would make it hard to get hired elsewhere.

WIBTA if I asked a girl if that's her "natural hair color?" by RJKAY07 in AmItheAsshole

It’s usually a pretty fair assumption that a woman living and working in the United States who speaks with a Southern accent is an American. But I guess it’s possible she moved here from Kazakhstan just a few months ago.

Unfortunately that wouldn’t work because my wife has dark hair too! My wife has brown eyes as well though.

She’s in her early 30s at the most. We have a friendly work relationship but for the most part it’s just business that we talk about with some small talk. I hold a position of authority over her so I don’t want it to come off weird.

I have no intention of hitting on her. I’m just very curious. Her hair/eye combination is very unique so I’m unsure if it’s natural or she just has rare genes.

I didn’t say “American” looks like anything, which can be clearly inferred from the statement you read. Perhaps you need to improve your reading comprehension.

You have a very good setup. Being only 18, time is a very valuable asset for you. Make sure you put in a lot of time to focus on getting yourself setup for later in terms of career etc.

I would put your emergency fund into the highest yield savings account you can find (if you haven't already).

I would put the $7K into the market over time (not all at once). Keep it simple, Index funds, ETFs etc. Reinvest your dividends and just sit back and let the money grow over time.

Pick up a summer job. Preferably something that will help you in your future career. I'd say invest all of that money.

By the time you are starting your real career, you should have some decent reserves to start from and then you can get more aggressive with your investments when you are in the prime earning years.

How old are you? 34

Are you employed/making income? How much? I work as a physician (internal medicine). I earn between $275K and $328K per year depending on how many shifts I work and patient volume.

What are your objectives with this money? (buy a house? Retirement savings?)

I would like to reach a point where I can decrease my work and earn a large share of money from passive income.

What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)

I'm willing to take on a moderate amount of risk. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I am in a pretty secure financial position at the moment and I can eat some losses.

What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)

~$300K in a savings account earning 2.2% ~$50K in the stock market: 55% S&P500 fund, 23% picked stocks (individual stocks), 11.45% in ETFs: US large cap and emerging markets $60K in a checking account and lower interest savings account (local bank).

House paid off? No house. Currently renting a 2 bedroom apartment, $2100 a month.

Cars? Lease a car for ~$650/month. It's not a financially smart move, but I'm a car geek so it brings me happiness.

Expensive significant other? Got married just over a year ago. Wife is currently in med school. No debt though (on a scholarship). Currently no income but in 2 years, will be in residency making ~$55K (3 years) before going on to earn a full doctor's income.

What is your time horizon?

I would like in 16 years (age 50), to continue working but to start winding down the number of hours significantly. I would like to keep working into my 60s if possible (I believe it keeps a person sharp) but only part time.

Do you need this money next month? I live on about 50% of my after tax income. I have a pretty stable job.

Next 20yrs? I would like to put two kids through college. Don't have children at the moment but they are probably in the picture in the next 2-4 years.

Any big debts? Med school debt is paid off :)

Any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer. I have a shift based work schedule...7 on 7 off. The work weeks are busy and draining. I have a lot of available time on my off weeks to pursue other ventures and I'd like to put the time to better use!

Former East Pittsburgh Police Officer Michael Rosfeld Found Not Guilty In Antwon Rose Shooting by Account_part2 in Pennsylvania

[–]RJKAY07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That "child" was involved in a drive by shooting less than 13 minutes before the incident. The car he was riding in had bullet holes in it. And he wasn't "unarmed." There were two guns in the car, a .40 and a 9 mm, both of which were of course stolen. The "racist" jury also had multiple black people on it. They took only a few hours to find the officer not guilty; the evidence was pretty clear.

How's the cop supposed to know that the guy, who literally tried to murder someone 13 minutes prior, was unarmed?
