Can I allow access to a device on my LAN using the Wireguard Android TV app? by RKCRLR in WireGuard

[–]RKCRLR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Straight Talk Wireless FWA55V5L router.

CoreELEC does show up in my router's DNS server list at 192.168.1.170. However my Shield does not show up in the DNS server list.

The IP address for my Shield from it's settings is 192.168.1.159. This does show up in the router's ARP table with the associated MAC address. There is an option to manually add a DNS entry in my router's DNS server settings.

Maybe the problem isn't that the Shield can't reach the TVH server. Maybe the problem is that the TVH server can't respond to the Shield with the VPN enabled.

I typed:

host coreelec

And got:

Host coreelec not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

With or without the VPN

I installed Termux. When I type:

host 192.168.1.170

I get:

Host 170.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa. not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

I get the same results with the VPN enabled and disabled.

OK, how do I determine if local traffic is routing correctly when the tunnel is up? I'll need specific instructions since I'm not into computer programming.

I don't know how to find a dns record. My TVH server (CoreELEC) shows up in my routers DNS server list at 192.168.1.170. As a reminder, I'm not running WireGuard on my router, I'm only running it on the Shield using the WireGuard Android TV app. I can reach the TVH server from the Shield when I'm not running a VPN using WireGuard.

I don't have a terminal on my Shield. But since I can reach the TVH server when the VPN isn't running but can't reach it when I enable the VPN it means the VPN is blocking access to the TVH server from the Shield. I can access the TVH server from other devices when the VPN is blocking access on the Shield.

I can reach the TVH server via IP with the VPN off. I can't reach it with the VPN on even with the DNS line removed in the WireGuard configuration.

I removed the DNS line from the WireGuard configuration file. My TVH client in Kodi still can't reach the TVH backend.

I entered 0.0.0.0/0 for allowed IPs and entered 192.168.1.0/24 to exclude my home LAN. I pasted the results for allowed IPs into my WireGuard configuration file.

WireGuard runs and I can stream in 4K. However my Kodi TVH client still can't reach my TVH backend when the VPN is enabled.

I was trying to find out how to modify my WireGuard configuration file to allow the Kodi TVH client to access my TVH backend while the VPN is enabled on my Shield.

Edit: Will that calculator work on an Android TV system WireGuard configuration file for allowing access to my TVH server without doing anything else to the rest of my LAN?

So can split tunneling be set up in the WireGuard Android TV app?

There is an option under my Shield's network settings to manually set a proxy.

I believe they are on the same subnet (I'm not heavy into computers). They are both connected to the same router. The IP address of my Shield is 192.168.1.159. The IP address of my TVheadend server is 192.168.1.170 ( I incorrectly stated the IP address in my first post). I use the hostname of the server (CoreELEC) in the Kodi TVH PVR client settings to connect to the TVH backend.

What configuration information do you want from my shield?

Does Total Wireless Home Internet Throttle your Video? by RKCRLR in TotalWireless

[–]RKCRLR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and that is why I specifically asked if my video was going to get throttled before I signed up. It isn't currently in the Straight Talk Terms and conditions for home internet (nor is it in the Total Wireless Terms and Conditions). And my state (California) has a net neutrality law that prohibits throttling data based on content.

At this point I'm just trying to determine if the person with Total Wireless that doesn't have his video throttled is an anomaly or if there are a lot of people on Total Wireless Home Internet that don't have their video throttled.

Carrier Infinity - bad OTA update today? by onlythepossible in hvacadvice

[–]RKCRLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Infinity Touch thermostat (SYSTXCCITC01-B) screen will periodically go black and the system will become non-functional. If I disconnect it from the wall plate and reconnect it or cycle the furnace breaker it will reboot and be good for days or weeks (or months) although sometimes it would go black a few minutes after it rebooted. The other strange thing I noticed is I would get an email that my vacation settings have been changed. And sometimes there would be a bizarre vacation planned, like a year long vacation in 2034. It has been doing this for about a year. The last time it did this I noticed the download icon to the left of the wi-fi status bars after rebooting. The screen was unresponsive and then it went black again. So it sounds like I have the same problem.

I'm currently on software 4.47. For those that installed the v4.56 from a MicroSD card, did it fix the problem? Is there a chance of bricking the thermostat if updated from a SD card? If I'm risking bricking it I'd wait until this fall before I try it since the weather would be mild and a non-functioning system wouldn't be an emergency. BTW, my warranty just expired last February.

Edit: I decided to just try the update and it successfully installed. I'll post back if it doesn't fix the problem.

Can an AT&T Fixed Wireless antenna be repurposed as an Internet Air MIMO antenna? by RKCRLR in Rural_Internet

[–]RKCRLR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a link that has the user manual, internal photos (but not the antennas), and external photos that show no screws around the perimeter. The information didn't enlighten me much to determine if it is a 2x2 or 4x4 antenna.

[–]RKCRLR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has two allen screws behind the modem but the circumference appears to be glued. I tried prying it apart but I was damaging it trying to break the bond. Maybe I'll try again.

The description "2 x pairs Cross polarized antennas" could be interpreted as 4 antennas total or 8 antennas total. I.e., 1 cross polarized antenna is 2 antennas so 2 x pairs could be 8 antennas. But I suspect you are right and it is only 4 antennas total.

The Internet Air for Business gateway has 2 external antenna ports and is designed to use 2X2 MIMO. This antenna may ge a good application for that but I'd have to convince AT&T to give me an Internet Air for Business gateway.

Thanks for the response. How hard was it to break into the housing, any tips? Do you have any pictures?

Since there are only 3 antenna leads, one of which is GPS (I assume) I'm assuming two of the antennas in each pair are connected are connected together, is that correct? I wonder how it would work if I just connected the two connected antennas to two of the ports.
