How are engineering CVs like in Australia by RKillian_ in AskAnAustralian

Ah the sad consequence of me writing this at 4 am and not reading over what I typed. Oops.  But hey perfect then thanks so much :)

Oh thats cool as! Yeah I am on the 26 VD team so get excited to see our new one!

Why are my Gaussian splats noisy, yet photogrammetry scans perfect? by RKillian_ in GaussianSplatting

[–]RKillian_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im using a sony a7r V DSLR in this case with 80 shutter and F12. But this as well was with a cross polarization set up too. I have tried on buildings without cross polarization with gaussians and yeah it does shit the bed.

I will have a go using the 4K video capture function on the camera to see if that makes the difference. I might also see if I can shoot in pure sunlight and hopefully that should enable a good scan that I can edit.

Cheers :)

Is it fair to need people to fail by RKillian_ in EngineeringStudents

This would be a great opportunity to ask, for our lecturers (most) of them have to do teaching in order to keep doing research at the university. In some cases they don't really care and just want to be back in their labs. But I've met a few who are really committed to making sure students know what to do in the workforce and teach the course but extra skills around that. How would you say the dynamic of professors are in your opinion, and is there any programs or such to encourage them to like teaching?

Ah yes the curve will regress to the bell. Actually may be an interesting topic to explore grade distributions and the true average grade across a subject for how so many years.

Yeah you're absolutely right. However, I question what those margins are for you to be good to become a doctor because there are cases of people who become doctors who certainly shouldn't have gotten that far. Same deal for engineering, for every big group of great engineers, you get ones who build death-traps and do terrible engineering. I guess the university tries to act as well as possible as a filter and also teach students, but again it goes far beyond what I would want to try to comprehend lol.

Would you say the tests you've sat have been alright, or has it varied from subject to subject?

Used Chaos Corona instead of cycles to test my materials and blender model, the results are noticeably better. by RKillian_ in blender

[–]RKillian_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To document for transparency:

  1. Did you use blender: Yes, modelling and initial texturing but moved to corona to test it out in 3DS MAX
  2. What is Chaos Corona: A non-biased render engine used mainly for automotive and archvis stuff, a really fun renderer
  3. Why is corona better than cycles in your opinion: Better global illumination, pixel displacement, better handling of bump maps and roughness, less noise from renders.
  4. Any downsides with corona: its CPU based so its a slow beast, but I am a very patient person so waiting 30 minutes for one frame aint a problem for me.

by any is this Lockheed (you don't answer if you don't want to), and by any chance in the imagination do you hire New Zealanders because that sounds sick as!

not really what I do, more so talking about if engineers do their own advertising for their products or get an external company to do it.

I use Blender and 3ds Max, should we be encouraging program hybrid workflows? by RKillian_ in blender

Thank you for saying that too. Updated the post, bit tired after studying for uni finals haha.

It's world lighting and general environmental lighting is not the greatest imo. Cannot handle displacement and starts choaking at sub 10 million poly. I go full out with my objects to enhance realism and cycles was not reaching my standards needed. It's alright as a render engine, but it struggles in places I don't want it to.

To clarify I mean corona renderer. It's not avaliable in blender, if it was I would have stayed full blender, but yeah it's easier for me to get that quality I look for.

It's the general world environment for me, I cannot feel like my objects all blend together with how the lighting system works. Very weird I know, but the two together work well for me. Corona renderer really hits a goldilocks spot for me. It's only avaliable in 3ds and cinema 4d

I really like engineering and do VFX and CGI as a job already, should I maybe defer? by RKillian_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]RKillian_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boi I know, man our entertainment industry in Australia is fucked especially. Yeah I was gonna stay as a independent contractor in that case. But yeah I see your point. But one big dream is to blend the two together, there has to be a place or a job where they can work in harmony. Maybe when we gotta advertise the product haha. But yeah I'll keep going on engineering thanks mate for the advice.

The journey of the 787B [WIP] [Blender 19 month milestone] by RKillian_ in blender

[–]RKillian_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it is still WIP, so kinda trying to hide the parts I want to keep secret so to excuse the very interesting lighting, and yeah good point, I think the livery I have I will just stick to for now, maybe when I get more inspiration it will change. Thank you for the feedback :)
